About The Position

Manage the development, design, and execution of critical capital engineering projects related to plant operations, expansions, and the implementation of state-of-the-art technologies. This role involves creating, developing, and deploying new processes and equipment at McCain’s facilities, working collaboratively with cross-functional teams in a matrix organization to ensure smooth project start-up, handover, and improved operational performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Chemical) or a related field; or equivalent related experience.
  • Up to five (5) years’ experience preferred, ideally directly related to food processing.
  • Familiarity with processing techniques and maintaining plant system documents, process flow sheets, block diagrams, schedules, and spend tracking.
  • Proven experience with AutoCAD.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze technical procedures, journals, and government regulations.
  • Skilled in report writing, business correspondence, and the creation of procedure manuals.
  • Effective presenter with strong communication skills for audiences ranging from managers to customers.
  • Proficient in word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Project.
  • Ability to apply probability, statistical inference, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to real-world scenarios.
  • Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization; capable of interpreting varied instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design and review of equipment and systems while applying corporate standards.
  • Define project scope and requirements; interface with engineers to ensure alignment and compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal and external project teams for seamless project execution from conception to launch.
  • Evaluate and introduce new process technologies to enhance existing systems and resolve process or safety concerns.
  • Work closely with finance, production, and safety teams to develop capital project justifications and Requests for Expenditure Authorization (REAs) efficiently.
  • Acquire and negotiate contractor bids, coordinate with procurement, and prepare project specifications or tender documents.
  • Manage release of design inputs to suppliers (contractors, component suppliers) and conduct supplier site visits to confirm equipment compatibility with existing plant infrastructure.
  • Produce detailed documentation including site visit reports, meeting minutes, material lists, purchase orders, installation schedules, and other installation documentation.
  • Develop and refine installation techniques and standards.
  • Administer capital projects (ranging from 100K to 2MM) ensuring alignment with deadlines and budgets.
  • Effectively recognize and utilize available project resources.
  • Address and resolve technical issues as identified by suppliers and manage technical documentation.
  • Provide technical support to processing facilities aiming for improvements in quality and efficiency.
  • Promote and manage continuous improvements within the facility.
  • Ensure compliance with safety principles: nothing we do is worth getting hurt for; safety must be proactively managed; every injury is preventable.
  • Ability to travel across North America (expected travel: 35-45%).
  • No direct reports; supervision is on a functional basis, including third-party and internal resources.
  • Uses project management and influence skills to drive results.
