About The Position

The Project Engineer will support the Project Manager in completing assigned projects on or before the scheduled completion date by coordinating and facilitating communication across various teams including sales, operations, application engineering, programming, and field execution. This role requires a strong understanding of project-specific control sequences, the ability to read and interpret project plans and specifications, and a high-level understanding of end-user standards and requirements. The Project Engineer will collaborate with application engineers on shop drawings, submittals, databases, programs, and graphical interfaces, ensuring quality assurance of engineering packages. They will also be responsible for coordinating with subcontractors, maintaining project schedules, managing redlines and As-Built documents, and overseeing commissioning activities. Additionally, the role involves mentoring junior team members, participating in solutions-based discussions, and contributing to project meetings. A commitment to a performance-based culture, open communication, and employee and site safety is essential. The Project Engineer must accurately complete weekly timecards.

Requirements

  • Equivalent experience of 4 years or more including vocational school, or a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer technology or similar field with 2+ years of experience preferred.
  • Moderate understanding of building construction methods, HVAC Controls, electrical systems as well as mechanical systems.
  • Ability to execute HVAC Controls, Building Automation Systems projects with high level of contract and project complexity.
  • Prior experience writing Building Automation Systems programs and graphics (e.g., Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, Schneider).
  • Experience dealing with a diverse and large number of simultaneous challenges, requiring knowledge of multiple disciplines while maintaining control.
  • Ability to communicate technical material to a non-technical audience.
  • Self-starter attitude that is inquisitive, intuitive and has a willingness to learn and grow.
  • Prior experience supporting construction and field employee groups, including strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and self-initiative.
  • Commitment to “open door” contact with all field employees.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills; high quality document and report preparation.
  • Key leadership competencies including high ethical standards, strong values, integrity, drive to deliver results, pride in personal and team performance, diplomatic problem solving and decision making, building effective teams, and action orientation.
  • Must be committed, calm and professional at all times.
  • Must use Microsoft suite of products including Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point, and Visio.
  • Must use AutoCAD and Bluebeam.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Manager in completing assigned projects on or before the scheduled completion date by coordinating with and facilitating communication.
  • Demonstrate comprehension of project specific control sequences and related scope.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with BAS application engineers to develop shop drawings, submittals, databases, programs, and graphical interfaces.
  • Provide quality assurance of engineering packages prior to submission and modify packages as necessary.
  • Understand the scope of work, read and interpret project plans and specifications.
  • Maintain end-user standards and requirements for all scope and the life of the project.
  • Proactively communicate technical issues to project managers and more senior level technicians, as well as contractors and subcontractors.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to forecast revenues and re-estimate project costs.
  • Support the project team by performing specialist and subcontractor coordination to maintain the project schedule.
  • Maintain redlines, coordinate field markups, and submit As-Built documents.
  • Coordinate and maintain commissioning requirements for third-party commissioning and testing.
  • Coordinate and manage check-out, start-up, and commissioning activities.
  • Report to work on time and ready to perform assigned tasks.
  • Mentor and set a good example for lower-level team members.
  • Take part in solutions-based discussions with owners and project stakeholders.
  • Attend and contribute to project meetings.
  • Look for opportunities and risks to keep the project moving forward.
  • Communicate with jobsite personnel from other trades to complete project objectives.
  • Complete assigned training as part of the position's career growth plan.
  • Support a performance-based culture, both team and individual, to assure continuous improvement and alignment with enterprise vision, mission, and objectives.
