About The Position

The City of Grand Junction seeks a creative, solution-oriented Project Engineer to work primarily on infrastructure projects to support capital Utilities projects. This position will be involved in planning, budgeting, design, permitting, and construction administration for a variety of utility infrastructure projects. The City of Grand Junction is seeking to hire a Professional Engineer with 4 or more years of experience to implement these critical projects while maintaining positive working relationships with both internal and external customers. Requirements

  • Four (4) years of increasingly responsible professional civil engineering experience.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver's license.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado within 1 year of employment.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • This position is a safety-sensitive position, which means you will be subject to random drug screens due to the nature of the work performed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering design tasks for assigned projects; coordinate start up meetings; perform calculations and modeling; prepare final layouts of infrastructure improvements; coordinate departments and jurisdictions involved in projects; evaluate budgetary constraints.
  • Participate in the selection of private contractors and consultant engineers for various projects; determine scope of work; participate in the preparation of Requests for Proposals and Requests for Qualifications; advertise for bids; participate in the review of proposals and bids; participate in award of contract.
  • Develop and present construction plans, specifications, contract documents, bid documents and cost estimates for proposed projects.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and priorities for assigned programs; recommend improvements and modifications.
  • Coordinate reviews by other City departments and outside agencies; obtain permits and authorizations from appropriate jurisdictional agencies; verify compliance with City standards and practices; approve drawings for construction.
