Project Engineer - Solar and Storage

Euclid Power
•$135,000 - $150,000•Remote

About The Position

The Project Engineer will lead solar resource and energy yield assessments and own performance analytics for operating solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. The role covers pre-construction and operational assessments for utility-scale and distributed photovoltaic (PV) projects, including compiling and validating meteorological, satellite-derived, and operational datasets; developing typical meteorological year (TMY) datasets; conducting measure-correlate-predict (MCP) analyses and long-term resource adjustments; estimating plant losses; conducting uncertainty analyses; and developing bankable energy yield estimates using PVsyst and other industry-standard tools. The engineer will evaluate project risks, constraints, and performance drivers, lead client engagements, present methodologies and results to clients and investors, conduct technical reviews and quality control, and improve assessment methodologies using operational fleet data. The position also monitors BESS performance against modeled projections, works with O&M and LTSA providers to address underperformance, builds lifecycle cost and profitability models, and analyzes market revenues and dispatch optimization. Additional responsibilities include planning around maintenance and operational events, managing analytics for a revenue insurance product, developing KPIs and operating reports, reviewing provider reports, maintaining annual tracking models, responding to stakeholder requests, supporting budgeting and cost forecasting, and refining processes.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in solar resource assessment, energy yield assessment, performance engineering, technical advisory, or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Physics, Meteorology, Applied Math, Renewable Energy, or a related discipline.
  • Hands-on PVsyst experience and familiarity with resource datasets such as Solargis, SolarAnywhere, Meteonorm, NSRDB, MERRA-2, or ERA5.
  • Experience with MCP, long-term resource assessment, and statistical evaluation of meteorological data.
  • Strong understanding of plant losses, uncertainty, degradation, and operational performance drivers.
  • Experience with performance diagnostics and benchmarking for operating solar and BESS projects.
  • Familiarity with PPAs, O&M agreements, and LTSAs.
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects alongside recurring reporting deadlines.
  • Willingness to provide occasional off-hours support for operating projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Project finance, lender’s technical advisory, independent engineer, M&A, or due diligence experience.
  • Knowledge of ERCOT market operations and BESS revenue drivers.
  • Experience with revenue hedges, revenue insurance, or other risk-transfer products.
  • Experience using Python, R, MATLAB, VBA, SQL, or similar tools for analysis and automation.
  • GIS or engineering software experience, such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or AutoCAD.
  • Experience building analytical tools, methodologies, or QA processes.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant technical discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-construction and operational solar resource and energy yield assessments for utility-scale and distributed PV projects.
  • Compile and validate meteorological, satellite-derived, and operational datasets; develop TMY datasets; conduct MCP analyses and long-term resource adjustments.
  • Estimate plant losses, run uncertainty analyses, and develop bankable energy yield estimates in PVsyst and other industry-standard tools.
  • Evaluate project risks, constraints, and performance drivers, including through regression-based operational analyses.
  • Lead client engagements end to end and present methodologies, assumptions, results, and uncertainties to clients and investors.
  • Perform technical reviews and quality control of analyses and reports.
  • Own and improve assessment methodology, including calibrating assumptions with operational fleet data.
  • Monitor BESS performance, including PR, availability, RTE, inverter availability, and degradation, against modeled projections.
  • Work with O&M and LTSA providers to resolve underperformance.
  • Build lifecycle cost and profitability models for storage assets and identify cost-savings opportunities.
  • Analyze market data to verify that arbitrage and ancillary services revenue meets contractual and financial expectations, and oversee dispatch optimization strategies.
  • Plan around maintenance and operational events to minimize market penalties and opportunity cost.
  • Own analytics for the fleet’s revenue insurance product, including calculation-period analysis, claim verification, and data validation.
  • Develop KPIs and produce monthly and quarterly operating reports; review O&M and LTSA provider reports; and update annual tracking models.
  • Respond to ad hoc requests from investors, lenders, regulators, and internal stakeholders, and support budgeting and cost forecasting.
  • Champion process development and refinement.
