About The Position

Balfour Beatty is seeking a Project Engineer to join the Carolinas Division for the Raleigh region. The ideal candidate will be a motivated, detail-oriented professional eager to start a career in construction project management. This entry-level role offers hands-on experience in all phases of construction and serves as the foundation for future growth within Balfour Beatty’s project operations track. As a Project Engineer, you’ll work closely with project leadership to assist with planning, scheduling, documentation, and coordination between team members, subcontractors, and clients. You’ll gain exposure to multiple construction disciplines while developing the technical, organizational, and leadership skills needed to manage projects successfully. This position is ideal for someone who is eager to learn, grow, and contribute to projects that reflect Balfour Beatty’s commitment to quality, innovation, and our Zero Harm® safety culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and project coordination principles.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated interest in pursuing a long-term career in construction management.

Nice To Haves

  • Internship or co-op experience with a commercial general contractor and/or 1+ year past experience.
  • Proficiency with project management software such as Procore, Primavera P6, or Bluebeam.
  • OSHA 30 certification and First Aid training (or ability to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Promote and enforce safety rules and regulations; assist with subcontractor orientations and safety documentation; perform and document weekly inspections in alignment with Zero Harm®.
  • Attend and document preconstruction meetings; help develop scopes of work and bid packages; support document control and distribution of revised specifications and drawings.
  • Assist in identifying long-lead items, maintaining material expediting logs, and preparing submittal schedules; participate in pull planning and critical path meetings.
  • Administer the RFI and submittal process, ensuring all documents are coordinated across trades, reviewed, and approved in support of project schedule milestones.
  • Track subcontractor progress and ensure work complies with plans, specifications, and quality requirements; maintain as-built drawings and documentation.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining quality control programs and tracking systems; coordinate inspections and help resolve deficiencies.
  • Support the change management process, prepare progress reports, and assist with meeting documentation and correspondence.
  • Assist in project turnover by compiling closeout documents, owner manuals, and as-builts; coordinate owner training and ensure all items are properly documented and delivered.
