Project Engineer

Veteran Hiring SolutionsDothan, AL
Onsite

About The Position

The company makes single-use nuclear protective clothing from a water-soluble polymer, then destroys the contaminated garments through a chemical and thermal process that removes the radioactive nuclides and leaves water vapor and air. Domestic plants ship their used garments to Alabama for processing. International plants cannot ship contaminated material across borders affordably, so the company builds and delivers the processing system to them instead. This role owns the build of these international processing systems. The hiring leader is currently the bottleneck, handling system design, P&IDs, electrical diagrams, PLC code, in-house fabrication, customer site templating, delivery schedule, and commissioning. This role is being added to provide capacity and support the growing international pipeline, with systems going to China and work underway in the UAE. The mission for the first 12 months is to own a customer system from solicitation to commissioning, including site templating, producing the design, directing the drafter, building P&IDs and electrical diagrams, writing or revising PLC logic, running in-house fabrication, holding the delivery schedule, and commissioning the system. The role requires someone who owns the project without being managed, thinks in systems, crosses lanes without complaint (mechanical, electrical, PLC, chemical process, fabrication, commissioning, travel), is teachable in both directions, and measures twice before moving.

Requirements

  • Reads and produces mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and electrical diagrams.
  • Understands PLC logic, or is trainable inside 90 days (external training provided).
  • Hands-on fabrication and construction oversight experience.
  • Experience owning a project or evolution end to end, including schedule and outside parties.
  • Systems level troubleshooting with incomplete information and no supply chain.
  • Willing to travel a few days at a time, some international.
  • Must have a valid passport or be able to obtain one.
  • Willing to live in the Dothan, Alabama area.
  • Must have served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Space Force, U.S. Reserves, or U.S. National Guard.
  • Technical background with trainability and intelligence to do the job.

  • Take the design load off the engineering lead inside 6 months, independently producing P&IDs, electrical diagrams, and PLC logic for at least one system.
  • Verify site readiness before every mobilization to prevent commissioning trips extending beyond schedule due to customer-side issues.
  • Achieve PLC proficiency within 90 days, including independently troubleshooting and modifying PLC code on a fielded system.
  • Document systems with current drawings, code backups, and written interface requirements.
  • Perform holistic diagnosis and repair plans for cross-campus engineering problems, including for the medical division.
