Project Engineer - Commercial Electrical Projects
About The Position
We are seeking a motivated Project Engineer to support the delivery of commercial electrical construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. Working alongside Project Managers, Superintendents, field teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and general contractors, this role will help keep projects organized, on schedule, and financially on track. This is an excellent opportunity for a construction professional looking to build a long-term career in commercial electrical construction, with hands-on mentorship and a clear path toward Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager roles. Projects include healthcare, higher education, institutional, manufacturing, industrial, and other complex commercial facilities.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in commercial construction, project engineering, or electrical construction.
- Working knowledge of commercial electrical systems, installation methods, sequencing, and field operations.
- Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, scheduling, and construction documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, and project schedules.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
- Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Willingness to travel to project sites throughout the Detroit metropolitan area.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with a commercial electrical contractor or specialty electrical subcontractor preferred.
- Experience with healthcare, higher education, institutional, manufacturing, industrial, or other complex commercial projects is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Support Project Managers with planning and execution of commercial electrical projects from preconstruction through closeout.
- Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, transmittals, procurement logs, and project documentation.
- Review electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, schedules, and scopes of work.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, field teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and general contractors.
- Track material procurement, equipment deliveries, long-lead items, and key project milestones.
- Assist with scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, billing, and financial reporting.
- Participate in project meetings, site visits, coordination meetings, and progress reviews.
- Collaborate with estimating and BIM/VDC teams on constructability, coordination, and installation planning.
- Maintain accurate project files, meeting minutes, correspondence, and document control.
- Assist with material takeoffs, procurement planning, commissioning, logistics, and project closeout.
- Help identify and resolve scheduling, procurement, documentation, and field coordination issues.
- Support compliance with project specifications, contractual requirements, company standards, and safety objectives.
