Overview Nomad Digital has an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our Engineering team based in Hayward, California. Working closely with the Project Manager and Engineering Manager, you will coordinate the technical delivery of projects, from solution design and documentation to testing, deployment, and troubleshooting. The role requires strong knowledge of IP networking, wireless technologies, and Linux platforms, along with at least three years of hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting network devices such as switches, routers, and access points. The successful candidate must be able to commute to the Hayward office and customer depots in the Greater Bay Area, with occasional international travel required.

Requirements

  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking, LAN and VLAN IP planning.
  • Advanced knowledge of Linux.
  • Hands-on experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting network devices including switches, routers, access points, and associated cabling.
  • Troubleshooting and problem management experience in a networking environment.
  • Good understanding of RF environments.
  • Strong documentation skills using Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Thorough and logical approach to planning and implementation.
  • Very good communication skills, both technical and user-facing.
  • Fluency in both French and English.
  • Familiarity with industrial and maintenance processes in a railway environment is strongly preferred but not essential.
  • Ability to travel within North America (5–15% depending on project phase).
  • Ability to work onsite in train depots or shunting yards.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, IT, or Computing Engineering, or a related subject.
  • Understanding of IT/Telecom Operations and Maintenance procedures.
  • Knowledge of antenna design and antenna placement.

Responsibilities

  • Define project deliverables based on requirements from the sales-to-delivery handover.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager to coordinate internal teams and ensure deliverables are completed within the specified timescales.
  • Engage with clients to determine requirements, agree solutions, review documentation, agree test plans, and present results.
  • Design solutions during the presales stage and finalise designs during the project phase.
  • Create project documentation in line with requirements and planning, including: Design documentation, including synoptics Bills of Materials (BoMs) Integration documentation for third-party solutions Test specifications Configuration, training, and installation manuals Documentation for handover to operations
  • Define and review configurations to ensure they meet design objectives.
  • Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and on-site acceptance testing (SAT) to ensure successful service delivery.
  • Troubleshoot issues through direct investigation or by coordinating with internal teams or manufacturers; may act as 3rd line support for internal teams.
  • Manage the handover to clients or in-house support staff, including training.
