The Project Engineer independently scopes projects, develops preliminary investigation plans, and determines project specifications—including cost, timing, and sample requirements—based on client input, supplemental data, and product construction. The role establishes test programs using project files, manufacturer information, product samples, and UL requirements. Projects may involve frequent travel to conduct or witness testing at client sites. The engineer serves as the Project Handler of record and may serve as Reviewer of record when assigned. The position coordinates laboratory work and project administration, communicates project status and results to clients, and prepares reports and Follow-Up Service Procedures and information pages. It also addresses client concerns, resolves engineering issues, supports staff, and contributes to continuous improvement and the development of UL requirements, test methods, and equipment. Other duties may include representing UL at industry events and directing or training staff.
