Project Engineer - Rolling stock

Your role To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be involved in the following: Rolling Stock Vehicle design, testing, commissioning maintenance and operation analysis. Involved in Rail System design to meet operational capacity and project functionality and performance requirements with special focus on the rolling stock vehicles. Working with multiple teams (System Design teams, Track team, RCS team and the Requirements Management team) within the Automation Systems directorate on specification and delivery of various communication systems relevant to the rolling stock vehicle into the overall transit, urban rail and heavy freight project solutions. Assistance with proposal development on an as-needed basis. Support multiple consulting projects in Project Management, Proposal writing, technical specification writing, quality assurance. Assistance with interfacing with design groups (communications, fixed facilities, etc.) and with external team members (architects, code consultants, major suppliers, etc.). Assistance with the delivery of design/construction and interface control documentation. Support for testing & commissioning and setting to work of mass transit, urban rail and heavy freight signalling and control systems.

Requirements

  • A university degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (APEGBS) or Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO).
  • 5-7 years of experiences in rail and transit industry with rolling stock or system design focus.
  • Familiarity with the design and selection of the various elements of a project’s communication systems.
  • Familiarity with generation of technical requirements and specifications in a project environment.
  • Able to work in AutoCAD/Revit and/or MicroStation 3D.
  • Able to work in a changing environment, including design offices, project offices, field environments, etc.
  • Must be able to travel to project sites.
  • Must be able to travel to vendor locations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to actively participate in working sessions and discussions with team members, partners and suppliers.
  • Highly self-motivated; takes initiative and is able to work with limited direct supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English required.

Nice To Haves

  • Combined business-engineering background (e.g. Engineering & Management Degree), Minor in Business, MBA, BBA, or other equivalent.
  • Project Management skills and PMP certification are assets.
  • Experience in, or demonstrated knowledge of, transportation planning, railway engineering, transportation engineering or communications systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Project, Visio and Access.
  • Technical writing skills.
  • Strong academic performance in applicable areas.
  • French would be an asset.
