About The Position

The Project Engineer is responsible for the engineering design and execution support of automotive conveyor and automated systems, including ASRS, AutoStore, conveyor sortation, and robotic solutions. This role maintains cradle-to-grave responsibility for system layouts and designs, ensuring strict compliance with customer specifications, automotive OEM standards, safety requirements, and internal/customer drawing standards. The Project Engineer supports manufacturing, on-site installation and commissioning, interfaces directly with customers during design and layout reviews, participates in safety reviews, and provides engineering input to project cost forecasting.

Requirements

  • 4 year Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics. Equivalent industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 3 – 7 years of experience in Project Engineering or system design within automotive conveyor or automated systems
  • Experience with automotive conveyor systems, ASRS, AutoStore, conveyor sortation, and robotic automation.
  • Strong understanding of automotive OEM standards, customer specifications, and engineering documentation requirements.
  • Proficiency with CAD platforms such as AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, installation, and commissioning teams.
  • Ability to participate effectively in customer-facing design and safety review meetings.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and sense of ownership.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be eligible to work in the USA long term without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Project Managers to support schedule, scope, and cost objectives.
  • Coordinate engineering deliverables with controls, manufacturing, purchasing, installation, and commissioning teams.
  • Support procurement with technical clarifications, vendor coordination, and drawing reviews.
  • Participate in change management, including scope evaluation, engineering change notices (ECNs), and cost impacts.
  • Prepare bills of material (BOMs) and engineering documentation to support procurement and manufacturing.
  • Identify technical risks early and support mitigation planning.
  • Support manufacturing by resolving drawing issues, answering RFIs, and addressing fit-up or tolerance concerns.
  • Provide engineering support during installation and startup, including on-site troubleshooting as required.
  • Assist with punch list resolution and final system acceptance activities.
  • Verify installed systems match released designs and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate with controls, commissioning, and installation teams to ensure designs support functional and operational requirements.
  • Maintain document control, revision tracking, and as-built drawing updates.
  • Ensure engineering documentation is accurate, complete, and released per project milestones.
  • Support development of final turnover documentation packages.
  • Ensure compliance with customer specs, safety standards, and quality requirements throughout execution.
  • Participate in customer meetings, design reviews, and technical discussions.
  • Communicate design intent and constraints clearly to internal teams and customers.
  • Support customer questions related to layouts, functionality, and performance.
  • Incorporate approved customer feedback into finalized designs.
  • Build trust by delivering consistent, high-quality engineering outputs.
  • Contribute to improvements in engineering standards, templates, and best practices.
  • Capture lessons learned from projects and support standardization across future programs.
  • Support mentoring of junior engineers as assigned.
  • Develop and maintain engineering labor forecasts and project engineering budgets.
  • Track engineering hours and cost categories against forecasts and project budgets.
  • Support project teams with engineering estimates during project planning, change management, and execution phases.
  • Identify risks related to engineering scope, rework, or design changes and implement mitigation strategies.
