Project Engineer - Special Projects

Atlantic Constructors•Richmond, VA

About The Position

Atlantic Constructors is hiring a Project Engineer for its Special Projects team. The role oversees planning and implementation of commercial special-project installations, including HVAC, electrical, piping, ventilation, fire suppression, and plumbing work. Unlike the company’s large new-construction projects, these jobs are smaller and more specific, such as remodels, tenant upfits, rough-ins, and smaller commercial new-construction projects, often ranging from $50,000 to $100,000. The Project Engineer supports day-to-day project delivery, coordinates internal departments and external project partners, monitors schedules, budgets, resources, and performance metrics, and helps ensure work is completed on time, within budget, safely, and to quality and code standards. The position includes supervisory responsibility and may involve hands-on field work.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across varied disciplines.
  • Ability to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Self-starter able to work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, pay attention to detail, and demonstrate problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to pass a post-offer pre-employment drug screen and, if required, satisfactorily complete additional background checks such as DMV or criminal-history checks.
  • Must adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Must be available to work assigned schedules.

  • Communicate evolving schedules and tasks to mechanics and technicians in the Service Department and field.
  • Monitor daily metrics, including manpower and material and equipment deliveries, and mentor site leadership to support timely, on-budget completion without defects or accidents.
  • Prepare, monitor, and maintain project budgets and report key metrics to senior management.
  • Represent Atlantic Constructors to current and prospective clients.
  • Participate in in-house, client, and vendor meetings.
  • Schedule company trades, subcontractors, and suppliers as needed to meet customer expectations and deadlines.
  • Manage projects from retrofits to replacements, including hands-on field work when needed to ensure completion and code compliance.
