Founding Engineer - Special Projects
About The Position
Aran is seeking a versatile, execution-oriented Founding Engineer to tackle whichever engineering or software problem is most important across the company. Work may include building AI agents, resolving difficult engineering constraints, prototyping tools, and delivering solutions for customers. The role is suited to someone who can learn unfamiliar subjects quickly, work across disciplines, and independently turn problems into functioning solutions. The engineer will build internal tools, automations, and prototypes; improve manual engineering workflows; and contribute directly to customer projects. The position does not require specialization in a particular engineering discipline or a conventional career path. Aran emphasizes demonstrated ability to build and ship over years of experience or formal credentials.
Requirements
- An unusually strong track record of building things and independently solving difficult problems.
- Ability to use AI coding tools to build functional software, regardless of formal background.
- Ability to learn unfamiliar technical subjects quickly and become productive without extensive guidance.
- Excellent engineering intuition, resourcefulness, and judgment.
- A strong execution focus and willingness to figure out unfamiliar problems.
- Prioritize shipping working solutions over titles, processes, or organizational boundaries.
Responsibilities
- Take on high-priority engineering and software problems across the company, from concept through working solution.
- Build internal tools, AI agents, automations, and prototypes to eliminate repetitive engineering work.
- Work across civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines, learning what is needed to solve problems.
- Turn manual engineering workflows into scalable, automated systems.
- Join customer projects, identify bottlenecks, and deliver solutions without waiting for a process to be defined.
- Handle important tasks that do not fit into another person's job description.
