About The Position

Project Engineers will be responsible for the successful delivery of small to medium size building projects, or working as part of a large team responsible for an area on major projects, including developing concepts and producing the design. This role involves a blend of project management and technical engineering tasks, with 90% of the time dedicated to project engineering and 10% to project management and technical improvement initiatives. The engineer will be responsible for the engineering of projects from concept and schematic design through construction documents to construction and commissioning, or for segments of larger projects supporting a Senior Project Engineer. Responsibilities include providing design inputs, attending client meetings, performing site visits, and ensuring the quality and timely delivery of projects within budget. Business development support, including proposal writing and fee estimates, may also be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering degree.
  • Experience in delivering projects over $20m and up to $80m in construction value.
  • 5 years project engineering experience, from design development to opening, with one completed high profile project included.
  • Experience in working in integrated teams.
  • Experience in design and delivery of LEED Silver or higher projects.
  • Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Mechanical: Experience with complex analysis tools and energy modeling for mechanical design.
  • Mechanical: Experience in calculating, sizing, and specifying mechanical equipment including AHU’s, pumps, and fans.
  • Mechanical: Experience with heat gain calculations for spaces for energy modeling and detailed engineering of mechanical systems for a variety of uses.
  • Mechanical: Experience with specification editing and construction phases.
  • Electrical: Experience with complex analysis tools for electrical design.
  • Structural: Experience with complex analysis tools for Structural design.
  • Design of mechanical air and piping systems for small complex buildings or areas or systems of larger buildings.
  • Design of medium, and low voltage systems.
  • Design of electrical systems for small complex buildings.
  • Design of Fire Alarm and Life Safety systems for small complex buildings.
  • Design of structural systems for small complex buildings.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Licensed PE if MEP Engineer.
  • Licensed SE if Structural Engineer in states with SE license, PE or CE / PE in other states.
  • LEED accreditation or Green Associate preferred.
  • Experience with architecturally significant buildings is a plus.
  • Experience with potential project types in commercial, corporate, institutional and civic, aviation, and healthcare sectors is a plus.
  • Mechanical: Experience with chilled beam systems, radiant systems, micro-climates, and under floor air a plus.
  • Electrical: Experience with architecturally significant buildings, controls and commissioning, central plants, multi- emergency generator systems, and mission critical buildings a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Improve engineering design and design processes in a particular discipline.
  • Identify and apply new trends in Engineering design.
  • Perform project management tasks including manpower estimates, communications, budget monitoring, organizing deliverables, and setting project standards.
  • Develop typical details, specifications, and drawing standards, including Revit standards.
  • Stay updated on industry and technology changes and recommend changes in approach.
  • Improve analytic processes, documentation, common solutions, and critical solutions.
  • Foster a commitment to external and internal client service.
  • Manage the project engineering of small to medium sized projects (less than $80m in construction cost) from concept through commissioning.
  • Manage the project engineering of segments of large (over $100m) projects, supporting a Senior Project Engineer.
  • Provide design inputs and reviews of other engineer’s projects.
  • Attend meetings with clients and promote positive client contact.
  • Participate as a team member, contributing ideas and solutions, and leading where appropriate.
  • Perform site visit surveys for engineering strategies and to document existing systems.
  • Visit project sites during construction for reviews of quality, progress, and compliance.
  • Conduct project reviews at all stages of design.
  • Ensure the quality and timely delivery of projects to budget.
  • Seek input from more senior staff on technical matters.
  • Support business development as needed, including writing project descriptions and preparing fee estimates.
  • Work with architects on concepts for project competitions.
