About The Position

MSA is seeking a Project Engineer – Structural to lead the planning and design of impactful building structures serving municipalities and infrastructure clients. This role focuses on projects such as municipal buildings, water and wastewater facilities, waterfront structures, parks & recreation facilities, or tank design — projects that directly support thriving, resilient communities. This hybrid on onsite role can be based out of our Jacksonville or Sarasota FL offices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program required
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant post-graduate structural engineering experience required
  • Florida Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) license required
  • Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles, building codes, design standards, and construction practices
  • Experience performing structural calculations and developing construction documents
  • Proficiency with structural analysis/design software and CADD/BIM platforms applicable to structural engineering
  • Ability to lead project components and coordinate effectively across multiple disciplines
  • Strong technical writing, verbal communication, and client-facing skills
  • Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical and constructible solutions
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to balance multiple project demands
  • Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to junior staff
  • Understanding of project scope, schedules, budgets, and the relationship between technical delivery and overall project performance

Nice To Haves

  • Structural engineering emphasis preferred
  • Experience designing structural systems for buildings, municipal infrastructure, water/wastewater facilities, waterfront structures, tanks, or similar projects preferred
  • Multi-state licensure may be required based on project assignments

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural design for municipal, water and wastewater, waterfront, parks and recreation, tank, and other infrastructure and building projects
  • Perform and review structural engineering calculations and analyses for steel, concrete, masonry, wood, and other structural systems as applicable to project needs
  • Develop structural plans, details, specifications, technical reports, and construction documents
  • Evaluate design alternatives and develop practical, constructible solutions that meet project requirements
  • Coordinate structural designs with architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical, process, and other engineering disciplines
  • Maintain accountability for technical accuracy and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and QA/QC requirements
  • Lead assigned project components through planning, design, bidding, and construction with minimal oversight
  • Monitor scope, schedule, and budget for assigned work and proactively communicate project needs or concerns
  • Perform field investigations to document existing structural conditions and support rehabilitation or modification projects
  • Provide construction-phase support, including site visits, submittal reviews, responses to RFIs, and resolution of field-related technical issues
  • Coordinate and review work completed by junior engineers, designers, and technical support staff
  • Communicate directly with clients and project stakeholders to coordinate deliverables, resolve technical issues, and provide project updates
  • Lead or participate in client and project team meetings
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate structural solutions into overall project designs
  • Build technical credibility and strong client relationships through responsive communication and high-quality work
  • Support proposals, project pursuits, and business development activities as opportunities arise
  • Mentor graduate engineers and junior staff through technical guidance, work review, and ongoing feedback
  • Share structural engineering knowledge and best practices across project teams
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, quality initiatives, and technical development within the Structural team
