About The Position

The Site Infrastructure team within Caterpillar Technology is responsible for defining, evaluating, and recommending the critical site infrastructure that enables Caterpillar Technology and Digital solutions across construction and mine operations worldwide. A Site Infrastructure Engineering Specialist (Project Engineer) will define infrastructure requirements, research new and emerging technologies, test available options and formalize recommendations with performance levels. Additionally, they will collaborate with existing technical teams in communications networks, positioning systems, site compute platforms, cloud connectivity, cybersecurity, and autonomy to deliver recommendations.

Requirements

Infrastructure Architecture & Design: Knowledge of enterprise and industrial infrastructure design; ability to convert customer and business requirements into scalable technology solutions.
Demonstrates experience designing large-scale infrastructure architectures.
Understands networking, compute, storage, cybersecurity, and cloud technologies.
Facilitate architecture reviews and technical decision-making.
Evaluates tradeoffs between alternative infrastructure solutions.
Communicating Complex Concepts: Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to customers, leadership, architects, and cross-functional teams through effective presentations and simplified explanations.
Managing Multiple Priorities: Ability to manage multiple concurrent customer deployments, technical initiatives, and infrastructure programs while balancing urgency and quality.
Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop long-term infrastructure strategies that support Construction modernization, autonomy, scalability, and future technology growth.
Technical Excellence: Demonstrated expertise in industrial networking, GNSS infrastructure, data center technologies, cloud connectivity, and mining technology solutions.
Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related curriculum.

Nice To Haves

Proven experience designing, testing and/or deploying construction technology (3D Grade, Compaction, Payload, Load and Haul) or industrial infrastructure solutions.
Experience with networking technologies including industrial Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or LTE systems.
Experience with GNSS, RTK correction systems, site survey infrastructure, and/or machine positioning technologies.
Leadership experience facilitating architecture reviews and customer technical workshops.
Experience supporting Construction, autonomous systems, fleet management systems, or mining operations.
Experience with customer site operations

Responsibilities

Collaborate with platform and/or commercial teams to define Customer Needs
Define infrastructure requirements, research available solutions, define success criteria, down select options, test for performance levels and create final recommendations to improve the capability, reliability, scalability, and security of site infrastructure solutions.
Participate in architecture reviews, site readiness assessments, infrastructure validation, and deployment certification activities for customer sites.
Consult on integration issues involving site communications, GNSS, data center, cloud, and autonomy infrastructure with existing customer environments.
Develop reference architectures and standards for networking, positioning, compute platforms, remote connectivity, and site operations centers.
