About The Position

S&ME is seeking an experienced Project Engineer or Geologist with a strong foundation in quality assurance to support its growing nuclear practice. The position applies engineering or geology expertise and project management skills to civil, environmental, geotechnical, and nuclear projects, with possible work across Commercial, Industrial, and Energy markets. Projects may involve site selection, due diligence, field exploration, construction quality assurance, permitting, licensing, and construction support for nuclear facilities. The employee may also serve as a Project Quality Assurance Manager (PQAM) or Quality Assurance Representative (QAR) within S&ME's Nuclear Quality Assurance Program. The role involves hands-on project work and travel throughout S&ME's footprint. During nuclear project assignments, the employee must be able to work a rotational schedule of 10 days on and 4 days off, returning home between rotations. The position may be based near Knoxville, Charlotte, Raleigh, Columbia, Atlanta, Greenville-Spartanburg, or Columbus. It is a full-time role with competitive pay based on experience. Candidates must meet employment eligibility requirements and comply with S&ME's Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements; visa assistance is not available.

Requirements

At least 5 years of relevant experience in geotechnical investigations, construction, and/or engineering projects.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to travel and work a 10-days-on/4-days-off rotational schedule during nuclear project durations, returning home between rotations.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
Ability to stand for extended periods, up to 12 or more hours.
Ability to routinely lift and carry 40–50 pounds of equipment and samples.
Valid employment eligibility (I-9) is required.
Must comply with S&ME's Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements.

Responsibilities

Coordinate field drilling operations to collect soil samples, monitor drill rig efforts, classify soils, and prepare boring logs.
Analyze project data and make decisions focused on project success.
Prepare project proposals and reports that address client expectations and needs.
Create detailed reports presenting findings, insights, and recommendations for project development.
Support projects and clients by communicating project updates and engaging with leadership in business development events.
Collaborate with field staff, engineers, and clients to follow the Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) program and support growth in the nuclear sector.
Develop, implement, and maintain QA program procedures and documentation in accordance with project and regulatory requirements.
Lead and coordinate QA efforts across multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
Conduct on-site audits, inspections, and assessments to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and regulatory expectations.
Lead or collaborate on off-site audits, inspections, and surveillance of subcontractors and vendors, including developing Commercial Grade Dedication plans.
Interface with clients, regulators, and internal leadership in environments subject to continuous oversight and review.
Provide clear, accurate, and timely reporting on QA performance, risks, and corrective actions.
