About The Position

The City of Bend is accepting applications for one (1) regular, full-time Project Engineer or Engineering Associate in the Engineering Department. This is a salaried, exempt (overtime in-eligible) non-represented position. The City may use this job posting to create an eligibility list for future hiring purposes. This position offers an opportunity to work on meaningful capital improvement and infrastructure projects that improve public safety, mobility, and quality of life for Bend residents. Depending on experience and licensure, the successful candidate may be hired as a Project Engineer or an Engineering Associate, with work assignments aligned accordingly. In this role, you will contribute to the planning, design review, coordination, and delivery of public works projects such as transportation, utilities, and municipal infrastructure. A typical day may include reviewing engineering plans, coordinating with internal teams and consultants, responding to technical questions, tracking project schedules and budgets, and supporting construction or inspection activities. Project Engineers will manage projects more independently, while Engineering Associates will work under the supervision of a licensed engineer and build their professional skill set. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university in Civil Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities as outlined in this job description.
  • Project Engineer: 4 to 5 years’ experience in a similar position and/or performing similar tasks.
  • Project Engineer: Certification as a Professional Engineer in the State of Oregon required, or acquire within six months of appointment.
  • Current and valid Driver's license per City policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Engineering Associate: Certification as an Engineer-In-Training required, or acquire within six months of appointment.
  • Current and valid Oregon driver's license per City policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with public works or municipal projects

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, design review, and delivery of public infrastructure and capital improvement projects
  • Review engineering plans and technical documents for compliance with City standards
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, inspectors, and internal City staff
  • Track project schedules, scope, and budgets; assist with cost estimates and change management
  • Respond to technical questions and resolve engineering-related issues during design and construction
  • Participate in field visits, inspections, or construction support activities as needed
  • Prepare reports, documentation, and recommendations for project decisions
  • For Project Engineers: independently manage moderate-sized projects or components of larger projects
  • For Engineering Associates: assist with technical engineering tasks under licensed engineer supervision
