About The Position

Kiewit is seeking a Project Engineer / Operations Manager to support our growing Mechanical Specialty Services group. This team provides technical expertise, engineering support, specialized equipment, and self-perform services for critical mechanical activities including pressure testing, bolting/torquing, tensioning, and related specialty work across projects. This is a unique hybrid role that combines engineering, operations, technical support, and field engagement. You'll serve as one of the company's subject matter experts for mechanical specialty services while helping expand an internal self-perform organization that supports projects throughout North America. This position is primarily based in the Houston/Freeport area and requires periodic travel to project sites to provide technical support, training, and operational oversight.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical discipline.
  • Experience with pressure testing, bolting/torquing, hydraulic tensioning, or related mechanical specialty services.
  • Background in piping, mechanical construction, maintenance, or refinery/industrial facilities.
  • Strong understanding of applicable industry codes and mechanical testing requirements.
  • Experience supporting field operations on industrial or EPC projects.
  • Ability to travel to project sites approximately every other week.

Nice To Haves

  • PCC-2 (ASME Post Construction Committee) training or certification.
  • Experience developing testing procedures or engineering work packages.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic tooling and specialty mechanical equipment.
  • Experience supporting estimating or constructability reviews.
  • Experience working in refinery, petrochemical, LNG, power, or heavy industrial environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise for mechanical specialty services, including pressure testing, hydraulic bolting/torquing, tensioning, and related field operations.
  • Serve as a technical resource for engineering, operations, estimating, and project teams regarding applicable codes, testing procedures, and industry best practices.
  • Support development and execution of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including pneumatic and hydrostatic testing procedures.
  • Assist project teams with planning, estimating, equipment selection, and execution strategies for specialty mechanical work.
  • Support Kiewit's internal self-perform specialty services program by expanding capabilities previously subcontracted to outside vendors.
  • Coordinate specialized equipment utilized on projects, including hydraulic tooling, pressure testing equipment, and capital assets managed through Kiewit's internal equipment system.
  • Travel to project sites (approximately two trips per month) to provide technical support, training, and operational guidance.
  • Develop and deliver training for field personnel performing specialty mechanical work.
  • Partner with Quality, Engineering, Operations, and Equipment teams to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient execution.
  • Help establish best practices and continuously improve mechanical specialty service capabilities across the organization.
