About The Position

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) is seeking a Project Engineer for our Municipal department in Newark, NJ. This role involves supporting the planning, design, and execution of various municipal infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will prepare engineering calculations, technical specifications, reports, and construction documents, while also developing plans using design software. Coordination with project managers and senior engineers is crucial, as is interfacing with municipal clients and regulatory agencies. Responsibilities extend to reviewing shop drawings, RFIs, and contractor submittals during construction, providing construction support, and participating in client and public meetings. The role also includes assisting with cost estimates, schedules, and budgets, ensuring compliance with codes and standards, and mentoring junior staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • 4–8 years of relevant experience in municipal engineering or public infrastructure projects
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong understanding of municipal design standards and permitting processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, design, and execution of municipal infrastructure projects, including roadway improvements, drainage systems, water distribution, sanitary sewer systems, and capital improvement programs
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical specifications, reports, and construction documents in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations
  • Develop plans, profiles, and details using design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Coordinate with project managers, senior engineers, and other disciplines to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget
  • Interface with municipal clients, regulatory agencies, and utility providers to support project approvals and permitting efforts
  • Review shop drawings, RFIs, and contractor submittals during the construction phase
  • Provide construction support services, including responding to field inquiries and performing site visits as needed
  • Participate in client meetings, public presentations, and coordination meetings
  • Assist with the preparation of cost estimates, schedules, and project budgets
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and agency requirements
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative team environment
