About The Position

The Project Engineering Co-Op will support the mechanical engineering programs across multiple scrap metal recycling facilities. This role involves CAD design and documentation, including updating equipment and facility layouts for automobile shredders, ferrous downstream, and non-ferrous systems. The intern will also design machinery stands and maintenance platforms, and produce accurate fabrication drawings and bills of material (BOMs). Additionally, the role supports project management by assisting in the creation of project scope, budget, and schedule documents for capital projects, coordinating small-scale projects, and tracking project scope, cost, and schedule. Travel to various facilities with the engineering team is also a component of this role. The intern will gain hands-on experience in mechanical installation and troubleshooting, learning about key mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components, supporting precision installation of equipment, interpreting engineering schematics, and applying equipment manuals to solve technical challenges.

Requirements

  • Actively pursuing Bachelors or technical degree program with concentration in Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong MS Excel and PC configuration skills
  • Strong CAD skills
  • Ability to build relationships, collaborate and work efficiently with team members
  • Comfortable in an industrial environment with some outdoor exposure in all weather conditions
  • Successfully passing a pre-employment drug screening, which includes both urine and hair follicle testing.

Responsibilities

  • Update equipment and facility layouts for automobile shredders, ferrous downstream, and non-ferrous systems.
  • Design machinery stands and maintenance platforms for equipment such as rotor indexers, rotating magnets, feeders, and screeners.
  • Produce accurate fabrication drawings and bills of material (BOMs).
  • Support the creation of project scope / budget / schedule documents for multi-million-dollar capital projects.
  • Coordinate and manage small-scale projects including field installations, equipment start-up,and plant modifications.
  • Track project scope, cost, and schedule.
  • Travel to in- and out-of-state facilities with the engineering team to support project execution and other duties as assigned.
  • Take ownership of learning and applying knowledge of key mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components.
  • Support precision installation of bearings, gears, and other rotating equipment with tight clearances.
  • Interpret engineering schematics to assist in troubleshooting mechanical and hydraulic equipment.
  • Review and apply equipment installation and operating manuals to solve technical challenges.
