  • Ability to develop clear, organized, comprehensive structural calculations and engineering documentation using appropriate engineering judgment.
  • Ability to independently evaluate structural design alternatives and identify practical solutions based on technical, constructability, coordination, and project requirements.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate structural requirements effectively with architects, consultants, contractors, and other project participants.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, engineering judgment, attention to detail, and ability to work through complex technical issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical guidance, mentorship, and constructive feedback to less-experienced engineers.
  • Ability to review engineering work for technical accuracy, completeness, and consistency with project requirements and Apex standards.
  • Ability to take ownership of assigned technical responsibilities while recognizing when issues require direction from a Project Manager, Project Executive, or senior technical resource.
  • Commitment to continued technical development and contributing to Apex engineering standards, technical resources, and knowledge-sharing efforts.
  • Diploma/Certificate.
  • American citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform advanced structural analysis and design for complex structural components and building systems using applicable codes, standards, and engineering principles.
  • Develop, review, and evaluate complex structural analysis models, including three-dimensional gravity and lateral building models, using appropriate modeling assumptions, loads, boundary conditions, and design parameters.
  • Evaluate analysis results using engineering judgment and investigate unusual behavior, load distribution, forces, reactions, deflections, stability concerns, or modeling conditions.
  • Develop and evaluate structural design solutions for complex conditions, considering performance, constructability, efficiency, coordination, and project requirements.
  • Interpret and apply ASCE 7, IBC, AISC, ACI, TMS, SJI, and other applicable codes and standards, including provisions requiring engineering judgment or interpretation.
  • Develop, review, and finalize structural calculations and engineering documentation for completeness, consistency, assumptions, design criteria, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Interpret architectural, structural, and other construction documents and use project information to develop coordinated structural designs.
  • Review architectural and MEP/FP drawings and models to identify structural impacts, equipment loads, penetrations, clearances, support needs, coordination requirements, and potential conflicts.
  • Coordinate structural design requirements with architects, consultants, and other engineering disciplines and help resolve multidisciplinary coordination issues.
  • Develop engineering information for structural drawings and models and coordinate with BIM/modeling team members on complex detailing, modeling, and documentation requirements.
  • Review structural drawings and models for consistency with calculations, design intent, project requirements, and Apex standards.
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and other construction-phase documentation; independently evaluate routine technical issues and assist with more complex issues.
  • Participate in external project meetings and technical coordination discussions with architects, consultants, contractors, and clients as directed by the Project Manager or Project Executive.
  • Communicate technical concepts, structural requirements, engineering concerns, design decisions, and proposed solutions to technical and non-technical participants.
  • Identify technical issues, incomplete information, coordination and constructability concerns, and other conditions affecting structural design; communicate them with recommendations to the Project Manager or Project Executive.
  • Provide technical support to Project Managers and Project Executives in evaluating design alternatives, constructability, technical risks, and complex engineering issues.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Project Engineer I and Project Engineer II team members in calculations, analysis modeling, design methods, software, codes, and Apex standards.
  • Review work prepared by less-experienced engineers when assigned and provide constructive technical feedback.
  • Contribute lessons learned, recurring technical issues, and improvement opportunities to internal technical discussions and knowledge sharing.
  • Participate in Apex Technical Advisory Groups and help improve engineering standards, design tools, calculation procedures, software practices, technical resources, and lessons learned.
