About The Position

Under the direction of the Project Engineering Manager, the Project Engineer II is responsible for managing projects from the design stage, all the way through production approval. This includes tooling, fixtures, gauging, production routings, schedules, dimensional approval, costs, profitability, and customer contact/correspondence. This role also involves developing and facilitating intermediate part number projects, managing projects in advance markets, supporting quality responsibilities for new part projects, and independently developing/improving manufacturing methods. The Project Engineer II will contribute to plant management team operational review meetings and participate in company advancement projects. They will apply investment casting knowledge to improve operational performance and determine process steps, tooling, gauging, materials, and supplies for efficient manufacturing. This role requires using technical ability to influence process knowledge and manufacturing teams/leadership, and contributing during line-down situations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical engineering field from a four-year college or university.
  • 3+ years of experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to effectively communicate internally with other employees to share information, solve problems, and instruct manufacturing or supporting departments.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to customers and/or suppliers and act as the Primary technical contact.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex documents such as blueprints, shop orders, work plans, and customer specifications.
  • Ability to write standard reports and documentation.
  • Ability to operate various equipment, including various precision measuring devices and lifting devices.
  • Broad knowledge of tooling, material characteristics, and general manufacturing and machining practices.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite products.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with CAD.
  • Knowledgeable and/or familiar with applicable ISO/IATF/AS and quality system requirements and policies.
  • Become knowledgeable of 3D solid modeling (SolidCast) and NX (UniGraphics).
  • Understand GD&T principles and continuous flow manufacturing principles.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects from the design stage through production approval, including tooling, fixtures, gauging, production routings, schedules, dimensional approval, costs, profitability, and customer contact/correspondence.
  • Develop and facilitate intermediate part number projects, including significant part redesign and complex mold setups for solidification, challenging secondary operations, component sub-assemblies, and subcontract selection/support on 10 or more active projects in multiple facilities.
  • Manage projects in advance markets such as the automotive, aerospace, defense, and/or medical markets.
  • Support intermediate quality responsibilities for new part projects by creating customer quality documentation, identifying and reaching resolution on gaps/conflicts, and supporting customer complaints.
  • Independently develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods through new part sampling, manufacturing feedback, and customer feedback.
  • Contribute to plant management team operational review meetings with the executive team.
  • Participate in company advancement projects.
  • Apply investment casting knowledge to improve operational performance in Dip/Dewax, tooling design, melt, and heat treat.
  • Determine the process steps, tooling and gauging, and the materials and supplies to be used for efficient and cost-effective manufacturing.
  • Manage part number projects to meet or exceed customer expectations for timing and quality.
  • Use technical ability to influence process knowledge and manufacturing teams/leadership.
  • Act as a contributing team member during line down situations.
  • Comply with all safety and health guidelines, quality standard practices/procedures, and housekeeping standards.
  • Prioritize customer satisfaction, timeliness, and quality.
