POSITION SUMMARY Marathon Petroleum Company LP (MPC) is seeking a Project Engineer II/III to support the Catlettsburg, KY Refinery. This position leads the development, execution, and oversight of capital and expense projects while ensuring compliance with safety, engineering standards, and refinery Management of Change processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required.
  • Two (2) years or more of industry experience required.
  • A valid driver's license required.

Nice To Haves

  • Electrical Engineering degree preferred.
  • Project or construction experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Applies project management skills across all phases: development, justification, design, construction, and startup.
  • Manages multiple projects/programs safely, efficiently, and within budget; develops strategies to meet schedules and mitigate delays.
  • Ensures compliance with Management of Change (MOC), Process Safety Information (PSI), and mechanical integrity documentation.
  • Coordinates with external engineering consultants and designers to complete projects and studies cost-effectively.

  • Coordinates with external engineering consultants and designers to complete projects and studies cost-effectively.
  • Develops scope, cost estimates, and schedules for capital and expense projects; prepares Decision Support Packages (DSPs) and presents to leadership.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders including Maintenance, Construction, and Turnaround teams to support planning and execution.
  • Coordinates with external consultants and internal teams to support execution.
  • Participates in HAZOP reviews and incident investigations; applies safety and environmental standards to designs.
  • Applies engineering codes and specifications; ensures designs meet safety, environmental, and permitting standards.
  • Promotes safety awareness and takes corrective action when unsafe practices or conditions are observed.
