About The Position

We specialize in planning and upgrading electric distribution systems, leveraging decades of experience with power producers, utilities, commercial and industrial facilities, and municipalities. Our expertise spans distribution planning analysis tools, feeder design, voltage control, and grid modernization programs. Our engineering teams coordinate capacity expansion and deliver projects to enhance system reliability, including downtown networks, power lines, and underground planning. We also provide comprehensive inspections and permitting before commissioning. As a Project Engineer, you will be designing underground electrical distribution lines and will need to be proficient in reviewing and analyzing vendor civil drawings, identifying underground conflicts, route planning, and generating plan and profile drawings. Familiarity with duct packages and bore work is essential to the job. Knowledge and understanding of underground design specifications is crucial in this role. You will self-check your work prior to submission, complete tasks with minimal errors, and participate in peer reviews. Other responsibilities include: Performing Quality Control (QC). You may also serve as the technical lead for a specific electrical program group. You’ll apply your technical expertise to ensure our projects meet all specifications of the client in your area. You’ll guide Design Engineers and Design Technicians in the preparation of detailed technical designs. You’ll share insights and experience with the team and engage with the client and other stakeholders to grasp the nuances of design elements. Reporting to the Project Manager (PM), you’ll communicate any challenges related to scope, cost, schedule, and quality as well as evaluating design personnel and assisting with resource allocation. Additionally, you’ll offer input on potential process and design improvements.

Requirements

  • ABET Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.
  • At least 3 years of experience in general Utility Design or 1 year in Chicago Electric Distribution Design
  • 1 year of experience designing underground utilities including experience designing, drafting, and analyzing plan and profile drawings for distribution design, civil roadway or utility construction projects using AutoCAD or Civil3D.
  • Experience with road Right-of-Way Engineering and Utility Engineering.
  • Experience designing, drafting, and analyzing plan and profile drawings for distribution design, civil roadway or utility construction projects using AutoCAD or Civil3D.
  • Experience with duct packages and bore work.
  • Knowledge and understanding of underground design specifications.

Nice To Haves

  • EIT or PE
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (ABET accredited)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in underground utility design.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience designing underground electrical distribution facilities for local Chicago utility companies.
  • Experience designing overhead electrical distribution facilities for local Chicago companies.
  • Experience conducting QA/QC design reviews
  • Experience creating restoration plans, traffic plans, civil survey, OUC permitting
