About The Position

Overaa Construction is seeking a Project Engineer (PE) to join their Education project team. The PE will be instrumental in project success by engaging with craft field operations and supporting project management duties. This role involves the smooth administration of education construction projects, requiring close collaboration with the Superintendent and Project Manager. The PE will participate in scheduling, estimating, cost control, document control, regulatory coordination, and jobsite production, aiming to deliver safe, high-quality projects with maximum profitability. The position supports education projects across the Bay Area, including K-12 schools, community colleges, and universities. Prior education construction or DSA experience is valued but not required. The role may also involve responsibilities in estimating, business development, and preconstruction.

Requirements

  • Two to five years of relevant project experience across multiple phases of construction.
  • Experience supporting project responsibilities such as submittals, RFIs, change orders, procurement, scheduling, cost tracking, subcontractor coordination, and project closeout.
  • Experience working for a general contractor or major trade contractor on commercial, institutional, education, or similarly complex projects.
  • Degree in Construction Management, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, or a related field.
  • Organized, with a systematic approach to achieving high-level results.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage diverse personalities and coordinate with owners, inspectors, design teams, subcontractors, school districts, and other project stakeholders.
  • This role requires on-site work in Richmond, CA, and at education project sites throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Only candidates currently residing within commuting distance or already planning a move to the Bay Area will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior education construction or Division of the State Architect (DSA) experience.
  • Experience with K-12 schools, community or junior colleges, universities, or other education construction projects.
  • DSA project experience or familiarity with DSA documentation, inspection, approval, and closeout requirements.
  • Interest in developing expertise in education construction, including occupied campuses, phased construction, school schedules, regulatory requirements, and coordination with school districts and campus stakeholders.
  • Expertise in QSP, SWPPP, LEED, and sustainability is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Procore, PlanGrid, Bluebeam, Revit, SketchUp, AutoCAD, Primavera, Navisworks, Microsoft Project, and Viewpoint project management software is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the submittal process.
  • Manage and process RFIs.
  • Assist with DSA documentation, inspections, approvals, and compliance requirements under the guidance of experienced project leadership.
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders, including school districts, owners, architects, inspectors, subcontractors, campus representatives, and facilities teams.
  • Develop PCOs and manage the change-order process.
  • Support subcontractor buyout, coordination, and management.
  • Maintain project document control.
  • Develop and manage the procurement tracking log, including long-lead materials and equipment.
  • Support project startup, takeoff, estimating, and preconstruction activities.
  • Assist the Superintendent in preparing the weekly Short-Term Look-Ahead Schedule to monitor progress and ensure all work is scheduled for maximum efficiency.
  • Attend and participate in all project meetings.
  • Manage project closeout, including punch lists, O&Ms, spare parts, warranties, and applicable DSA documentation.
  • Support the project team in developing project-specific work plans.
  • Learn and support the specialized requirements of education construction, including campus coordination, school schedules, phased construction, occupied facilities, and student and staff safety.
