About The Position

Murrieta Valley Unified School District is seeking a Project Engineer / Assistant Project Manager to support a Project Manager on the owner's side. This role is crucial for managing the administrative and field aspects of multiple construction projects simultaneously across various school campuses. The district faces significant needs in infrastructure, including roof leaks, aging HVAC systems, and outdated classroom and lab spaces. The work involves roofs, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, safety systems, and modernization projects. The position requires meticulous attention to detail in managing project documentation, schedules, budgets, and contractor communications, especially during critical summer construction periods and ongoing campus operations with students present.

Requirements

  • 2 to 5 years of experience supporting construction projects, preferably on the owner or construction management side.
  • A bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience handling requests for information, submittals, and change order paperwork independently.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency in Procore or similar systems, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project or Primavera, and Excel.
  • Strong written communication skills for clear and concise documentation for the District, architects, and contractors.
  • Ability to work on a campus with children present and adhere to associated rules.

  • Experience with summer shutdown work (June-August).

  • Residing in or near southwest Riverside County.

Responsibilities

  • Manage requests for information (RFIs), submittals, and shop drawings, including logging, routing, tracking, and follow-up.
  • Prepare and maintain meeting minutes and project records to ensure a single, agreed-upon version of decisions.
  • Update project schedules, including three-week look-aheads, and identify potential delays.
  • Track project budgets, process contractor payment applications, and manage change order paperwork.
  • Coordinate inspections with relevant authorities, including the Division of the State Architect.
  • Maintain daily reports, site photos, and field records.
  • Manage punch lists, warranty documents, operating manuals, and the project closeout file.
  • Oversee multiple projects across several campuses concurrently, maintaining a clear understanding of each project's status.
