About The Position

About BFL Construction Founded in 1973, BFL Construction has a diverse portfolio of projects within the Institutional, Non-Profit, Commercial, Education, Health & Biomedical, Industrial, and Multi-Family space and is part of the JV Driver portfolio of companies. As a specialist in construction management, we provide complete oversight of each project from preconstruction to close-out and ongoing services throughout the warranty period. Urban Metro Builders Inc. (Company) is a division of BFL Construction and specializes in multi-family and single-family residential projects.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of Project Management experience working on commercial, institutional, or residential projects with a spend of at least $30 million+.
  • University or college diploma in a relevant construction/engineering program.
  • Excellent computer skills including experience using MS Office, Scheduling & PM software with Procore considered an asset.
  • Experience in all forms of contracts and delivery methods.
  • Sound knowledge in the review and negotiation of contracts for construction projects.
  • Strong technical, business, financial and legal acumen.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, presentations), including the ability to successfully translate technical information to non-technical individuals.
  • Experience working with different project delivery methods.
  • Exemplary leadership skills, including strong teambuilding capabilities.
  • Knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity take off procedures sub-trade procurement, pricing and bid closing procedures.
  • Excellent relationship building skills and ability problem solve.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and mentor a project management team.
  • Partner with Senior General Superintendent to successfully drive field accountability to achieve project objectives.
  • Lead and support all aspects of assigned projects including profitability, schedule adherence, customer expectations and subcontractors.
  • Manage all facets of projects with the team, such as chairing meetings, project status communication, change orders, close-out, including archiving of documents, maintenance and warranty manuals, deficiencies, and warranty work.
  • Provide oversight into the project goals, objectives, risks, assumptions, budgets, staffing requirements, responsibility matrix, work breakdown structure, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, public and internal team.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, and transfer knowledge to team to aid in efficient and well performed work objectives.
  • Provide preconstruction leadership to the project team, challenging them to deliver value-based design.
  • Support securing new business by participating in proposals, presentations and providing business leads, and participating in tender closings when requested.
  • Represent the company at company-sponsored, industry and community events.
