About The Position

This position is ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT FULL-TIME ANNUALLY PAID PARKS EMPLOYEES. Under general direction, with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, this role coordinates multiple aspects of special event planning for the Bronx Operations. The coordinator will assist the Borough Chief’s office with the coordination of special events held in Bronx parks, including reviewing proposals, conducting site visits, assessing site fees, and managing events on site. This role also coordinates the creation, development, and production of Parks-produced events, and may supervise subordinate personnel or act as a team leader. Responsibilities include reviewing and processing special event permit requests, working closely with various city divisions to ensure events are managed properly, preparing reports, maintaining records, and conducting frequent site visits to enforce rules and regulations. The position requires maintaining yearly event statistical information and an event filing system, communicating effectively with staff and the public, and assisting with other tasks as directed by the Bronx Chief of Operations. The work schedule includes weekend work in season and occasional nights and holidays.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to '1' or '2' above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in '1' above.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate multiple aspects of special event planning for the Bronx Operations.

  • Work closely with the Bronx Borough Commissioner’s Office, Parks’ Operations, Citywide Special Events, Enforcement, Revenue and Legal divisions to ensure events are managed properly.
  • Prepare reports, maintain records and documentation pertaining to special events.
  • Conduct frequent site visits and enforce Parks & Recreation rules and regulations to audit permit holders.
  • Maintain yearly event statistical information and event filing system.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with staff and the public. Ensure that all requests and concerns are resolved.
  • Assist with other tasks as directed by the Bronx Chief of Operations.
