About The Position

Award-Winning 50-person distinguished architectural practice is actively seeking a Project Designers of all levels to join their growing Newport Beach, Solana Beach, or Ontario studio. The firm possesses expertise in programming, planning, design, and management services, primarily catering to Educational Facilities for over three decades. With offices located in Orange County, San Diego, and East Bay, this firm boasts a wealth of professional knowledge, talent, and personalized commitment to their clients. This role requires a designer with strong design skills, growing project experience, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a project team. The Project Designer will support design development, contribute to project delivery across multiple phases, and help ensure high-quality design outcomes. Requirements

  • Strong design sensibility with solid conceptual and visualization skills.
  • Clear communication skills and comfort presenting design ideas in meetings.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a project team; some experience supporting or informally guiding junior staff is a plus.
  • Proficiency in design software, including SketchUp and Adobe Creative Suite; familiarity with visualization tools.
  • Good understanding of architectural design principles and building systems, with a desire to continue growing technically.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, take direction, and manage multiple tasks.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited program required.
  • Approximately 3–6 years of professional experience in architectural design, with evidence of increasing responsibility and contribution to project work. (Open to Senior Designers with 6+ years of experience)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in California educational facility (DSA) design preferred.
  • Experience with Revit Architecture preferred.
  • Interest or experience in educational projects and basic familiarity with relevant regulatory requirements is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to conceptual design development from programming through schematic design phases.
  • Develop and refine design concepts that align with client goals and project requirements under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Coordinate with project teams, consultants, and clients on design-related tasks and documentation.
  • Support and collaborate with junior designers and project staff by sharing design ideas and best practices.
  • Participate in internal design reviews and assist with client presentations.
  • Help maintain design quality and consistency across project deliverables.
  • Collaborate closely with Job Captains and Project Managers during design development and construction document phases.
  • Research and analyze design precedents, materials, and building systems to inform project work.
  • Maintain awareness of current design trends, sustainable practices, and emerging technologies.
