About The Position

The Audio Project Designer is responsible for the planning and coordination of audio requirements for produced events. Additionally, the Audio Project Designer is the local expert on current gear and emerging technology. This position is responsible for educating technical staff, sales staff, show-site staff, and branch management on equipment related issues. This position will interface broadly with other branches and warehouse personnel. This position will support our Audio Visual & Event Technology team. It follows an in-person schedule working full-time in-office and/or show-site based out of any of the following locations: Las Vegas, NV San Diego, CA San Francisco, CA Los Angeles, CA Seattle, WA

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree in related field preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience working in live sound reinforcement with a minimum of 5 years focused on corporate events; or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.
  • Ability to engineer instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to communicate how to install and troubleshoot various related equipment.
  • Advanced understanding of the fundamentals of analog/digital audio, acoustics, radio and electronics.
  • Experience with advanced audio networking.
  • Advanced experience with audio and RF measurement systems and optimization.
  • Experience drawing system design in AutoCad or VectorWorks.
  • Experience designing large-scale sound systems with full-range audio manufacturer equipment.
  • Advanced understanding of current market large-scale audio P.A.S (Vertec, VRX, etc.)
  • Advanced understanding of Freespeak, Dante Yamaha CL / QL Series , Rivage Reidel Com Helixnet Com Soundbase JBL IAS Wireless Frequency Coordination Software
  • Experience with entertainment rigging, safety and structural stability.
  • Valid state driver’s license required

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with clients, sales staff, operations, and project managers to develop sound system designs and to coordinate pre-production, onsite, and post-production activities in line with event budget.
  • Creates wiring diagrams and audio plots for shows based on budgeted designs; ensure on-site personnel have and understand this information.
  • Recommends audio personnel during scheduling process to ensure company resources are used effectively and follow company procedures and employee policies.
  • Evaluates the competency of Audio Specialists to ensure that Freeman’s quality standards are maintained.
  • Reviews operational procedures within the department and makes recommendations for improvements to enhance operational efficiencies.
  • Oversees equipment logistics and gear use to ensure that company resources are used effectively, including minimizing cross-rentals and efficiently using interbranch gear.
  • Researches and recommends Capital Expenditure Audio purchases for the company to keep abreast with current with industry standards and reduce cross rentals to maximize profitability.
  • Develop audio training programs to improve staff competency levels.
  • Works on-site as Audio Engineer, A2, or RF Frequency Coordinator on events as assigned.
  • Stays current with new and developing industry trends.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
