Project Cost Analyst
About The Position
Summit Line Construction, a subsidiary of Quanta Services, Inc., is seeking an experienced Project Cost Analyst to join its Provo team. The role supports the financial and cost-control functions of construction projects under the direction of the Project Controller and/or Project Manager. It focuses on accurate cost tracking, data entry, reporting, and forecast support to maintain budgetary control and project efficiency. The analyst monitors labor, material, equipment, and subcontract costs and collaborates with Project Controllers, Project Managers, Site Supervisors, and Finance teams to ensure timely, accurate financial data and reporting. The position supports project budgets and forecasts, prepares routine cost and production reports, reviews invoices, assists with change orders and cash-flow tracking, and helps maintain compliance and audit documentation. It also participates in job review meetings and supports RFQ and RFI processes by compiling financial data. The role is based with the Provo team. Physical demands include extended sitting, computer and office-equipment use, effective communication, occasional standing and walking, reaching, occasional lifting or moving of items up to 20 pounds, and reading documents and computer screens. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1–3 years of experience in cost analysis, project accounting, construction finance, or a related support role.
- Working knowledge of construction accounting principles and budgeting concepts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate with field operations and finance/accounting teams.
Nice To Haves
- Familiarity with earned value management (EVM) and project cost tracking principles.
- Exposure to JDE, SAP, EcoSys, or similar ERP/financial systems.
- Experience with high-voltage transmission and distribution construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and record actual project costs for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor invoices, ensuring accurate coding.
- Enter and maintain cost data in EcoSys and other financial management systems accurately and on time.
- Reconcile cost reports against budgets and flag discrepancies for the Project Controller to review.
- Support weekly cost verification and financial postings.
- Assist in maintaining project budgets and cost breakdowns under the direction of the Project Controller or Project Manager.
- Support Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) setup and updates with the project team.
- Help compile cost-to-complete estimates and monthly forecast updates.
- Track production and earned value metrics to support forecasting accuracy.
- Prepare routine cost reports, variance summaries, and production tracking reports for project leadership.
- Provide basic trend analysis comparing actual costs to budgeted amounts.
- Support development of dashboards and reports communicating project performance.
- Assist with weekly and monthly reporting on cost and schedule performance.
- Review subcontractor and vendor invoices for accuracy, coding, and compliance with contract terms.
- Assist in tracking change orders and their financial impact.
- Support monitoring of project cash flow, invoicing, and collections.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with company financial policies, internal controls, and accounting standards.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing and organizing requested cost documentation.
- Help monitor Accounts Receivable Aging Reports and retainage tracking.
- Coordinate with the Project Controller, Project Manager, Site Supervisors, and Finance/Procurement teams to ensure accurate data collection.
- Participate in job review meetings, providing cost data and supporting analysis as needed.
- Support RFQ and RFI processes by compiling financial data for project feasibility review.
