About The Position

The Project Coordinator/Conservation Practitioner V develops, manages and advances conservation programs, plans and methods for small to medium scale geographic areas. The Project Coordinator will coordinate and manage all land protection projects for the South Carolina Business Unit under the Preserve Hardwoods grant. This role will involve typical conservation real estate related tasks such as coordinating due diligence (appraisals, environmental assessments, surveys) as well as seeking project approval for each project. The Coordinator will see each project through from beginning stages to closing. The Conservation Practitioner V (CPV) provides technical leadership and support to a business unit and plans and directs project management for a conservation program within the South Carolina Business Unit. The CPV, working with the Land Protection team, employs a full range of protection tools to acquire varying degrees of legal interest in land and implements a variety of strategies to secure public and private support for TNC conservation priorities. The CPIV coordinates due diligence (appraisal, survey, title work, etc) for conservation real estate projects to fulfill goals and objectives of the Preserve Hardwoods grant. They will need to coordinate multiple projects, set deadlines and manage projects to completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years’ experience in natural resource management or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Relationship building experience to work closely with a variety of partners, i.e., media, government officials, internal scientists.
  • Experience completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
  • Experience with communication via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
  • Experience using common software applications such as Word, Excel, web browsers, etc.
  • Experience in training.
  • Must have valid driver's license.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in natural resource management, similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiarity with principles of land acquisition or similar asset acquisition.
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, land management and natural resource preservation.

Responsibilities

  • Performs tasks with minimal supervision and makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience and context.
  • Works with the Land Protection Team, reporting project progress and ensuring timelines are met and feedback is received when needed.
  • Directs external contractors in work ordered by TNC, following TNC procedures and processes.
  • Represents TNC in partner relationships while coordinating projects with external partners.
  • Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.
  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
