About The Position

Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Technical Project Coordinator to support development of an agentic modeling framework for complex scientific and national security challenges. The role works at the intersection of artificial intelligence, computational modeling, and biosecurity, coordinating technical and project activities across a multidisciplinary team of computer scientists and researchers. A key focus is supporting development of the Pandemic Preparedness Engine for Disease X, an agentic system integrating AI-driven modeling and predictive capabilities to advance preparedness for emerging infectious disease threats. Under the guidance of project leadership and subject-matter experts, the coordinator supports project execution, monitors research milestones, communicates progress and risks, and assists with implementing established biosecurity safeguards and risk-mitigation strategies. The role facilitates collaboration, maintains project documentation, and supports responsible development and deployment of advanced AI systems for biosecurity applications.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of related experience, or equivalent.
Project coordination experience.
Familiarity with large language modeling and foundation models.
Familiarity with state-of-the-art methods in artificial intelligence.
Ability to model Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

Maintain project schedules and track milestones, deliverables, dependencies, and action items across a multidisciplinary research team; escalate potential delays or risks to project leadership.
Coordinate status updates and reporting requirements, document technical progress, serve as an initial point of contact for routine project inquiries, and help translate program objectives into actionable research activities.
Apply knowledge of large language models, AI-based prediction, and computational modeling to support evaluation, application, and coordination of AI/ML approaches for complex scientific challenges, including the Pandemic Preparedness Engine for Disease X.
Coordinate routine biosecurity considerations with researchers, cybersecurity personnel, and project leadership; identify, document, and communicate potential risks associated with advanced AI and modeling capabilities.
Support implementation and documentation of established biosecurity safeguards, risk assessments, review processes, and mitigation measures under subject-matter expert guidance; coordinate biosecurity reviews and track follow-up actions.
Assist technical staff with preparing, organizing, and reviewing technical reports, presentations, publications, and software-dissemination materials.
