About The Position

The new IBC Project Coordinator will work closely with and report directly to the Senior Director for Research Biosafety & Regulatory Affairs in the Office of Science and Research. They will also collaborate closely with the existing IBC Administration (IBC Manager and IBC Project Coordinator). They will be providing expertise to support researchers and the IBC mission. They will also implement the compliance program of the IBC. They will serve as back-up for the day-to-day operations of the IBC Administration. Their responsibilities will also apply to the Institutional Review Entity (IRE).

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (molecular biology, microbiology, environmental health, and related life science fields).
  • A minimum of two years of practical experience with laboratory procedures and protocols involving biological materials, including recombinant materials.
  • Knowledge of biosafety regulations, guidelines, and best practices as they apply to biomedical academic research.

Responsibilities

  • Providing scientific, biosafety and regulatory assistance to investigators and research staff during the preparation, submission, approval and post-approval processes of IBC and IRE registrations.
  • Conducting scientific and biosafety reviews of IBC and IRE registrations, including industry-sponsored project reviews.
  • Serving as scientific and biosafety expert for the operations and optimization of the online IBC/IRE registration platform (RNav Safety module).
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of an IBC/IRE compliance program for laboratory inspections, incident investigations and noncompliance reports.
  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of IBC/IRE and other biosafety-related policies, manuals, training materials and methods (workshops, etc.) in support of individual, committee and institutional compliance.
  • Ensuring the integration of the IBC/IRE with other research oversight and support entities (EH&S, IACUC, IRB, OHS, etc.).
  • Conducting administrative review of IBC and IRE registrations, in accordance with institutional policies and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with MCIT for the technical implementation and maintenance of the online IBC/IRE registration platform (RNav Safety module).
  • Organizing IBC/IRE meetings agendas, through scheduling, recordkeeping, minutes transcription, and communications between the IBC/IRE and investigators.
  • Assuming general IBC/IRE office duties (correspondence, documentation, website maintenance, etc.).
  • Helping the design, development, and implementation of biosafety education programs for research personnel, students, and administrators.
  • Helping the design, development, and implementation of communication strategies to raise individual and institutional awareness about biosafety and regulatory compliance culture.
