As an Assistant Biosafety Officer, you will evaluate facilities for appropriate laboratory design and review laboratory safety practices and documentation to determine compliance with the most current editions of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant and Synthetic DNA Molecules and Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories (BMBL). In this role, you will review incoming submissions to the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and perform risk assessments for all biological agents and procedures described. You will train the research community on methods of applying and interpreting biosafety regulations and guidelines, provide training, consulting, and monitoring of research involving biohazardous materials and toxins, and maintain regulatory compliance data while assisting in compliance review. A caregiver in this role works days from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
