Project Controls Lead – Reporting & Automation
About The Position
WSP is seeking an experienced Project Controls Lead – Reporting & Automation to lead the development and implementation of reporting, analytics, and automation solutions across major projects and portfolios. The role owns the project controls reporting environment and uses Microsoft technologies to improve data visibility, automate workflows, reduce manual effort, and provide project leadership with reliable, actionable information. The successful candidate serves as an innovation leader, partnering with Project Controls Managers and project teams to identify opportunities for process improvement, technology integration, and automation. The position provides technical leadership and mentoring to project controls personnel and establishes reporting, data governance, and quality practices across project work.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Finance, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 10 or more years of progressive experience in project controls, reporting, data analytics, PMIS, or technology-enabled delivery supporting major capital projects or programs.
- Advanced experience developing and implementing solutions using Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, Microsoft Fabric, and the broader Microsoft data and analytics environment.
- Strong experience with data modeling, dashboard development, KPI reporting, data visualization, and integrating multiple project and enterprise data sources.
- Experience working directly with ERP and financial systems data, including extracting, transforming, validating, and integrating data into project controls reporting solutions.
- Working knowledge of Python, APIs, ETL processes, automation scripts, and data workflows used to automate data processing, reporting, and system integration.
- Strong understanding of project controls principles, including cost, schedule, change, risk, forecasting, earned value, and performance reporting.
- Working knowledge of commercial project controls and PMIS platforms such as e-Builder, Procore, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar systems, including the ability to integrate or use their data.
- Demonstrated ability to independently lead technology and reporting initiatives, identify improvement opportunities, and translate business requirements into practical solutions.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to advise Project Controls Managers, project leadership, clients, and technical teams.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of Power BI dashboards and reporting solutions across assigned projects and portfolios.
- Develop integrated solutions using Power Apps, Power Automate, Microsoft Fabric, and other Microsoft technologies to improve data collection, processing, workflow management, and reporting.
- Establish scalable data models, KPI frameworks, reporting standards, and dashboards that integrate cost, schedule, risk, change, financial, and performance information.
- Work with project data from ERP, PMIS, scheduling, financial, and other enterprise systems, and develop methods to extract, transform, validate, and integrate information.
- Develop automation solutions using Python, Power Automate, APIs, data pipelines, and other appropriate technologies to reduce repetitive manual processes and improve data reliability.
- Identify opportunities to improve project controls processes, reporting, and overall efficiency.
- Partner with Project Controls Managers and project leadership to evaluate existing processes and recommend practical technology and automation solutions that reduce effort and resource requirements.
- Establish data governance and quality controls to ensure dashboards, automated workflows, and project reporting remain accurate, consistent, and reliable.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to project controls personnel in reporting, analytics, automation, and the effective use of Microsoft technologies.
