About The Position

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking an experienced Construction Inspector. This position will serve as a Construction Inspector reporting to the Project Supervisor or Resident Project Representative on the project. The ideal candidate will perform construction observation and inspection on a variety of Transportation projects throughout Indiana. The candidate will interact with clients, contractors, and the public in meetings and other communication forms. Will provide documentation of construction progress through daily reports, status reports, and other forms of data reporting.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of transportation construction and quality control practices.
  • Knowledgeable in the Indiana Department of Transportation, Indianapolis Department of Public Works or other governmental agency specifications, standards and inspection requirements.
  • Read and interpret construction plans, drawings and other technical documents.
  • INDOT certified technician.
  • Driver’s License

  • Assisting Task Managers and Project Manager as needed on technical aspects of the project; well-rounded in aspects of consulting and the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Perform construction observation and inspection on a variety of Transportation projects throughout Indiana.
  • Interact with clients, contractors, and the public in meetings and other communication forms.
  • Provide documentation of construction progress through daily reports, status reports, and other forms of data reporting.
  • Inspect work of contractors and document project progress and quality of work.
  • Measure and calculate quantities of materials.
  • Perform material testing.
  • Perform and oversee field monitoring on various multisite/phase construction projects of moderate to large scale, scope, and/or complexity, including placement of concrete, earthwork, roadway paving, buildings, structures, foundations, and building materials.
  • Generate and substantiate reports and documentation regarding construction, materials, integration, equipment, and operations.
  • Manage tasks.
  • Provide continued mentored experience to senior staff.
  • Integrate professional attitudes relevant to the practice and foster creativity, curiosity, flexibility, and dependability in staff.
  • Apply principles of formal strategic and persuasive communications.
  • Represent their area of specialty within the practice and liaise with related individuals and practices.
  • Routinely interact with practice leaders, clients, officials, contractors, and others.
  • Integrate concepts of effective teamwork and leadership.
