About The Position

Mortenson is currently seeking a Project Buyer II to join our Power Team. This role will be responsible for working with project teams and suppliers to purchase materials, supplies, equipment, and services. As a top builder, developer, and EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction), Mortenson's expertise spans markets like sports, renewable energy, data centers, healthcare, and more. They are builders at heart, working to ensure the built environment has a lasting positive impact.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, construction management or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience
• Minimum 4 years of experience
• Current driver’s license
• Knowledge of construction processes, equipment and materials, purchasing processes and procedures
• Negotiating, organizing, planning, verbal and communication skills
• Strong customer service and analytical skills
• Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback
• Must be currently legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status, 0-1, TN, CPT, OPT, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers: solicit bids, analyze quotations, interview prospective suppliers, and select suppliers along with evaluating supplier performance based on quality, cost, and delivery time
• Work with manager to develop profitable purchasing strategies and propose procurement solutions that deliver value and reduce risk
• Create and maintain procurement logs for each supported operating group project
• Negotiate and prepare purchase agreements and purchase orders. Ensure suppliers adhere to contractual terms and conditions, including timeliness and quality standards
• Negotiate with suppliers to purchase items and services at the most favorable price consistent with quality, quantity, and specification requirements
• Analyze individual markets, handle budget and increase margin on a regular basis, track trends in purchasing habits
• Track order status from time of placing order until delivery and communicate status to project teams
• Visit project site to better understand project team challenges and develop streamlined procurement processes to be implemented
