About The Position

Mortenson is currently seeking a Project Buyer I or II – Power Delivery that will be responsible for working with project teams and suppliers to purchase materials, supplies, equipment and services. This position offers opportunities at both levels 1 and 2, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications. Compensation for this role is determined based on factors such as experience and location.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, construction management or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience (for Project Buyer II).
  • Minimum of 2+ years’ experience (for Project Buyer I).
  • Current driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of construction processes, equipment and materials, purchasing processes and procedures.
  • Negotiating, organizing, planning, verbal and communication skills.
  • Strong customer service and analytical skills.
  • Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback.
  • Must be currently legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship for employment visa status.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers: solicit bids, analyze quotations, interview prospective suppliers, and select suppliers along with evaluating supplier performance based on quality, cost, and delivery time.
  • Work with manager to develop profitable purchasing strategies and propose procurement solutions that deliver value and reduce risk.
  • Create and maintain procurement logs for each supported operating group project.
  • Negotiate and prepare purchase agreements and purchase orders. Ensure suppliers adhere to contractual terms and conditions, including timeliness and quality standards.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to purchase items and services at the most favorable price consistent with quality, quantity, and specification requirements.
  • Analyze individual markets, handle budget and increase margin on a regular basis, track trends in purchasing habits.
  • Track order status from time of placing order until delivery and communicate status to project teams.
  • Visit project site to better understand project team challenges and develop streamlined procurement processes to be implemented.
