About The Position

Breakthrough New York is hiring an After School Instructor to support its Middle School After School program at one of two sites: Forte Prep High School in Queens or The Town School in Manhattan. The instructor will work with the Program Manager, other After School Instructors, tutors, and students to prepare and deliver after-school programming, support site logistics and operations, and teach pre-written Project Based Learning curriculum to middle school students. The position is an onsite, seasonal part-time appointment for the Spring 2027 semester, with no guaranteed continuation into the Fall semester. The schedule includes in-person programming on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., supervisor check-ins, and required in-person training on January 13 and 14. Additional virtual training may be scheduled as needed. Compensation is $20.00 per hour.

Requirements

• Demonstrate experience and results with responsibilities similar to those listed in the posting.
• Be passionate about forming relationships with middle school students and act as a role model at all times.
• Be a current college student and/or be at least 18 years old.
• Commit to the entire Spring 2027 term (January 27–April 21).
• Be confident using Zoom and Google Drive and comfortable learning new systems.
• Demonstrate excellence in Breakthrough New York’s Core Values.
• Attend required in-person training on January 13 and 14, 4:00–7:00 p.m.
• Provide onsite teaching support Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:00–7:00 p.m., during the program period.

Responsibilities

• Deliver pre-written Project Based Learning curriculum twice weekly to middle school students.
• Support logistical aspects of the program and fill in when needed.
• Learn and practice student management techniques and communicate student needs to the Program Manager.
• Participate in weekly check-ins with the Program Manager for professional development and mid-semester and end-of-semester evaluations.
• Evaluate student output and track student performance.
• Complete training and observation sessions.
• Perform other duties based on the assigned Breakthrough New York site.
