About The Position

Better World Group (BWG) seeks a detail-oriented and motivated Project Assistant to support a range of projects in our core focus areas, including Clean Air, Transport and Climate Justice, Energy, and Rights of and Connection to Nature. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals interested in campaigns, advocacy, and effective policy development and implementation on climate and environmental justice issues. Project Assistants at BWG help drive meaningful change by supporting projects that bring resources, benefits, and opportunities to communities of color—especially those most affected by climate and environmental injustice. You will assist with campaign coordination, research, policy development, and project logistics on initiatives such as clean energy, equitable outdoor access, natural resource protection, and community benefit agreements. This role offers hands-on experience in state and local policy campaigns, coalition-building, and advocacy processes. As a Project Assistant, you will work both independently and collaboratively, learning how to craft effective policy and campaign strategies that create healthier, more equitable, and sustainable communities across the U.S.

Requirements

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong research abilities, including identifying, organizing, and analyzing data
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Comfortable using project management software (such as Productive.io or Asana)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and video conferencing platforms (Teams, Zoom)
  • A bachelor’s degree and at least one year of relevant work, internship, or volunteer experience are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, social media platforms, and online design/web development tools (such as Squarespace or Canva) is a plus
  • Fluency in Spanish and experience working with communities of color are strongly preferred.
  • Candidates should have some work, internship, or volunteer experience—especially in a leadership or support role—in one or more of the following areas: Clean energy and transmission, Offshore wind, Clean transportation, Native Nations law and policy, Climate and conservation policy, Environmental and racial justice, Public lands, Climate change adaptation, policy
  • Applicants with an interest in campaigns and any background in advocacy, organizing, or policy are especially encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project managers with organizing and coordinating campaign activities, client meetings, and project tasks.
  • Provide logistical and note-taking support during in-person and virtual client and stakeholder meetings.
  • Conduct online research to gather information for policy, regulatory, and legislative projects; prepare clear summaries and briefing materials.
  • Support qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, and basic visualization to inform project and campaign work.
  • Help create engaging slide decks and presentation materials.
  • Prepare written summaries, original analyses, and other client-related work products.
  • Work closely with project managers to complete client requests.
  • Assist with business development tasks such as preparing proposals and conducting background research.
  • Track policy issues at the local, state, and national level and support the firm’s exploratory research efforts.
  • Perform administrative tasks as needed.
  • Contribute to a supportive and inclusive work environment focused on equity and belonging.
  • Travel as needed to meetings and conferences, primarily within California.
