About The Position

In partnership with the Project Manager and Project Designer, the Project Architect is accountable for project financial performance and team communication. They are responsible for the issuance and content of deliverables, the technical content of HOK documents, and the coordination of disciplines including consultants. This role involves the supervision of all staff producing documents and primary responsibility for the implementation of Construction Phase Services in collaboration with the PM. The Project Architect is also responsible for securing QA reviews and implementing comments. A key aspect of this role is to participate in and contribute to a culture of technical excellence. The Project Architect works on developing a positive relationship of trust with client leadership and regularly communicates with client representatives to verify design requirements and specifications, conduct progress reviews, and deliver final presentations. They also receive project direction from the Principal in Charge and technical direction from the RBU Technical Principal. The role involves coordinating and tracking shared electronic documentation and files with the project team, clients, and consultants. They may also participate in business development meetings with team leaders to target specific project, client, or market opportunities.

Requirements

  • Must be a licensed architect and is responsible for signing/sealing drawings.
  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture or equivalent in education or experience required.
  • 10 plus years’ design experience.
  • Licensed Architect with current registration in your region required, if licensure is offered in your region.

  • NCARB registration preferred.
  • LEED accreditation or Green Associate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the overall design intent of the project established by the Project Designer is incorporated into the detailed documentation.
  • Monitoring the design process from conceptual phase through construction administration, ensuring the design idea is consistent and properly executed.
  • Providing technical resolution and coordination for a defined portion of a project.
  • Working with the Specification Writer to develop specifications and coordinating drawings and specifications.
  • Checking completed reports, plans, estimates, and calculations for accuracy.
  • Setting the overall strategy for producing the documents and identifying the sheets planned for each stage of the work, including defining how data will be organized into files and which elements will be incorporated in a Building Information Model (BIM).
  • Setting up project team software parameters and managing standards.
  • Fostering and maintaining a collaborative professional working relationship with the Project Leadership Team.
  • Communicating with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements and providing support as necessary.
  • Ensuring that construction detail documentation conforms to quality assurance, quality control, and best practice standards.
  • Supervising the preparation of technical drawings by other less senior level architects or technicians.
  • Performing as team leader on certain projects.
  • Mentoring and directing the work of less experienced staff, participating in professional development reviews and “Lessons Learned” sessions.
  • Taking personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices.
  • Fostering a commitment to external and internal client service.
  • Regularly communicating with client representatives to verify design requirements and specifications, progress reviews and delivery of final presentation.
  • Coordinating use and tracking shared electronic documentation and files with project team, clients and consultants.
  • Assisting in planning and conducting work making minor adaptations and modifications to complete working drawing set(s).
  • Meeting with municipal building department and other governing agency officials to coordinate approvals or variances.
  • Writing reports and memos to consultants and vendors to issue changes and track resolutions.
  • Providing technical support and project communications to team as required.
  • Attending on-site visits, field reviews and project meetings.
  • Preparing and coordinating the review of contractor’s schedules, submission of shop drawings and samples.
  • Assisting the Specification Writer in product research, consulting with manufacturers, evaluating and selecting project related materials.
  • Involved with specification set-up and drawing coordination, research and appropriate use of HOK Standards.
  • Providing support to all team members for specific market, discipline, or other areas of expertise.
  • Participating in team meetings to help resolve project issues, coordination with other disciplines, schedule adherence, technical issues.
  • Participating in review of project costs and budgets, adherence to schedule.
  • Preparing meeting minutes of consultant coordination meetings.
  • May prepare 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings and builds models for client/project team review.
  • Incorporating Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects.
  • May participate in business development meetings with team leaders to target specified project, client or market opportunities.
