About The Position

AECOM's Cultural Resources Team is currently seeking an experienced Project Archaeologist to work out of any one of our Ontario AECOM Offices to contribute to the growth and diversification of our archaeology team. The successful candidate will assist in managing, coordinating, and completing various archaeological assessments and associated reporting in accordance with provincial standards while meeting the needs of our diverse range of clientele. This will be a new full-time role starting as soon as possible.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field
  • 2 years + of experience in archaeological consulting or a similar role
  • Valid Ontario MCM Research or Professional Archaeology licence
  • Familiarity with MCM Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists
  • Attention to detail and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the pre-contact and historic artifacts found in Ontario.
  • Familiarity with the MCM's archaeology and heritage online portal (Past Portal).

Nice To Haves

  • 4 years + of experience in archaeological consulting
  • Experience preparing or contributing to archaeological reports as a listed author
  • Previous project coordination or project management experience in consulting
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities or project stakeholders
  • Familiarity with the Ontario MCM Past Portal
  • Strong understanding of Ontario pre-contact and historic artifact types

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects from the proposal phase to report completion, including coordination of multidisciplinary teams to successfully execute project deliverables.
  • Complete projects within client’s scope/budget/schedule expectations.
  • Coordinate with clients, subcontractors and Indigenous partners.
  • Complete archaeological reports (listed author) in compliance with the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism (MCM) standards.
  • Prepare and implementing field health and safety materials.
  • Support archaeological fieldwork, including basic data collection and field documentation.
  • Coordinate logistics for field activities and small teams.
  • Manage multiple field crews or complex field programs.
  • Track field effort and managing field datasets.
  • Additional exposure to regulatory compliance and heritage permitting processes.
