About The Position

This role is for a Project Accounting Manager based in the U.S. Gulf Coast. The position involves supporting location management reporting, preparing and analyzing financial data, ensuring accurate revenue and profit recognition, and leading a finance team. The role requires interpreting commercial terms, managing cash flow, and identifying areas for financial improvement within projects. It also involves collaboration with project teams, controls, and billing coordinators to enhance project administration and effectiveness. The Project Accounting Manager will act as a day-to-day finance business partner to the project management team, identifying and implementing cost reductions and minimizing non-billable costs. Ensuring contractual and joint venture operating agreement compliance, and managing contingencies and project incentives are also key aspects of the role.

Requirements

  • Engineering and construction project knowledge.
  • Experience leading financial teams.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in project accounting, or cost accounting.
  • Technical and analytical accounting skills.
  • Understanding of GAAP and IFRS.
  • Maintains the highest professional ethics and standards.
  • Strong technical and analytical accounting skills, specifically in the areas of financial modelling, analysis and reporting.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Bachelor of Finance, Accounting or Commercial degree and a professional accounting designation.

Nice To Haves

  • Consulting projects/processes knowledge a plus.
  • Joint venture operating agreement knowledge is an asset.
  • Familiar with ERP and BI environments, specifically Oracle and Hyperion is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Location Management Reporting processes for the delivery of consistent, accurate and timely management information (financial and statistical) to enable efficient fact based decision making.
  • Prepares, analyses, and interprets location results; comparing budget/forecast to actual, including KPI’s, and key business drivers, also recognizing the complexity arising from the multiple financial demands.
  • Responsible for revenue and profit recognition in accordance with accounting policies.
  • Responsible for leading a finance team, recruiting, training, coaching and developing, while maintaining a work environment that attracts and retains top talent.
  • Interprets commercial terms and conditions, including FX, tax, credit, and system implications.
  • Directs the administration and accounting of zero balance accounts and required third party reporting.
  • Identifies leakages within Location projects and guides management towards improvement.
  • Actively manages overall location’s cash flow process, including engaging the business for resolutions of disputes and timely collection of outstanding accounts.
  • Undertakes ad hoc reporting and participates in special projects as required.
  • Ensure processes in place to enable accurate weekly revenue recognition.
  • Weekly review of margins, WIP, Debtor and cash flow.
  • Ensure intercompany payables or receivables reconciled with counterpart and ensure prompt payment and received.
  • Link between Accounts payable and project for coding of invoices, ensuring that missing/expected invoices are accrued for/accounted timely.
  • Create and validate forecast/Budget for chargeable hours, sell/cost rates, resulting margin and ensure target is reasonable.
  • Produces and analyzes trend and variance reports as needed.
  • Gathers project accruals and provision information as needed in line with IFRS.
  • Ensures for lump sum projects, that revenue recognition is as per IFRS with full support of calculations and assumptions used.
  • Owns the accuracy of financial data as reported in monthly MPRD’s through collaboration with Projects team.
  • Works closely with Project Controls and Finance Analysts to produce monthly reports and estimates.
  • Works closely with project operations, controls and billing coordinators to improve project administration processes and effectiveness.
  • Identifies areas of potential project gross margin improvement; ensures accurate recovery of all costs as defined in the contract and ensures non-billable costs are minimized.
  • Interprets commercial terms and conditions, including Foreign Exchange, tax, credit, and system implications on bids and tenders to ensure accurate and timely costing and revenue recognition.
  • Works closely with Project Managers and Project Controls, and participates in monthly project reviews to challenge the financial and commercial health of projects.
  • Ensures project profitability is maximized for the project.
  • Ensures contractual and joint venture operating agreement compliance and participates in audits and resolution activities.
  • Ensure that DOA is adhered to for any write off of time, expenses or invoices, non-billable time is approved per DOA, request for continuance of work where required.
  • Complete working papers to capture use, accrual and draw down of contingencies; complete working papers to address how we will account for project incentives.
  • Day to day finance business partner to the project management team and representative of Finance function to them.
  • Participates in processes that enable the project team to effectively manage its costs.
  • Identifies and implements specific cost reductions and/or leakages.
