About The Position

This Project Accountant role focuses on managing the financial aspects of construction projects, including preparation and submission of monthly project pay applications, review of subcontractor billings, and administration of certified payroll and compliance reports. The position requires close collaboration with project managers and vendors to ensure accurate billing, timely funding, and effective financial control across all assigned construction projects.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of construction project accounting experience or a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Construction Management.
  • 1+ years of experience using Microsoft Excel, including the ability to review existing templates and spreadsheets.
  • Hands-on experience with project accounting, billing, and financial reporting in a construction environment.
  • Ability to understand and apply terms in construction contracts and subcontractor contracts.
  • Strong attention to detail when reviewing subcontractor progress billings and sub-tier documentation.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze Project Work in Progress (WIP) reports and discuss findings with project managers.
  • Experience administering and auditing certified payroll and Section 3 reports.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with project personnel and external vendors.
  • Ability to review and approve payables accurately and on a consistent weekly schedule.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Construction Management (in lieu of 3+ years of construction project accounting experience).
  • Experience with Vista Viewpoint (formerly Viewpoint) construction accounting software.
  • Experience with Textura Payment Management or similar payment management platforms.
  • Familiarity with construction industry compliance requirements, including certified payroll and Section 3 reporting.
  • Ability to support special projects and adapt to changing project accounting needs.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit monthly construction project pay applications and all required accompanying reports.
  • Manage and process billings for projects with Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) structures, ensuring accuracy and compliance with contract terms.
  • Interpret and apply terms from construction contracts and subcontractor agreements consistently across all assigned projects.
  • Prepare monthly Project Work in Progress (WIP) reports for assigned projects and review and discuss these reports with the project manager.
  • Collect and review subcontractor progress billings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project status and contract terms.
  • Collect and review subcontractor sub-tier documentation to verify compliance and accuracy.
  • Administer, collect, and audit project certified payroll reports and Section 3 reports in coordination with sub-tier contractors and program administrators.
  • Work closely with project managers to ensure funding is received in a timely manner to support scheduled payments.
  • Review and approve project-related payables on a weekly basis, ensuring proper documentation and coding.
  • Communicate regularly with project personnel and external vendors to address project-related accounting questions and requests.
  • Support and participate in special projects and ad hoc assignments related to project accounting as needed.
