About The Position

The Project Accountant supports the financial management of multiple telecommunications projects, ensuring accurate job costing, compliance with federal contracting requirements, and timely financial reporting. This role works closely with project managers, field operations, and the Controller to maintain strong financial controls and support informed decision‑making. As part of an ESOP company, the Project Accountant contributes to a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of project accounting experience in construction, telecommunications, or federal contracting.
  • Strong understanding of job costing, WIP, and revenue recognition.
  • Experience with FAR/DFARS compliance and federal contract billing.
  • Proficiency with Business Central software.
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis).
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate job cost records for labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment, and overhead.
  • Review project budgets, change orders, and cost‑to‑complete forecasts.
  • Monitor project profitability and identify financial risks or variances.
  • Prepare monthly Work‑in‑Progress (WIP) schedules and revenue recognition entries in accordance with GAAP and federal contracting standards.
  • Provide project managers with timely financial insights and cost tracking support.
  • Prepare and submit customer invoices, including progress billings, T&M, and milestone‑based billing.
  • Ensure compliance with federal contracting requirements (FAR, DFARS, DOL wage classifications, certified payroll when applicable).
  • Maintain documentation required for internal, federal, and ESOP audits.
  • Track subcontractor invoices, lien waivers, and compliance documents.
  • Assist the Controller with month‑end close, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Prepare project‑level financial statements, margin analysis, and variance reports.
  • Support annual budgeting and forecasting.
  • Provide financial data for ESOP reporting and valuation processes.
  • Maintain strong internal controls over project accounting and billing processes.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, federal regulations, and ESOP fiduciary standards.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Adhere to all company safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.
  • Regular and prompt attendance and punctuality.
  • Working long hours may be required to meet business needs and is considered an essential function of this position.
