We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Project Accountant to join our team. This role plays a critical part in the financial success of our projects by ensuring accuracy, transparency, and timely reporting throughout the lifecycle of each job.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • 3–7 years of project accounting experience, preferably in construction or project-based environments.
  • Experience with percentage-of-completion accounting preferred.
  • Familiarity with construction contracts, cost coding, and retainage.
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and project management systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Minimum of 3 years of GC commercial construction accounting experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or applicable degree preferred.
  • Relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with AIA-formatted pay applications.
  • Working knowledge of project contracts and change order documentation.
  • Proficiency in Vista software preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with percentage-of-completion accounting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and monitor project budgets and conduct regular budget reviews to ensure projects remain within budget.
  • Create and maintain project budgets in the accounting system, including updating contracts and entering change orders.
  • Conduct detailed monthly job cost reconciliations to maintain accurate and up-to-date financial reporting.
  • Analyze project costs, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies in billing.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve financial processes and reporting efficiency.
  • Create timely and accurate AIA construction billings, including lump sum and GMP projects.
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements and billing guidelines.
  • Handle routine collections and monitor accounts receivable to ensure timely payment.
  • Support accurate revenue recognition through consistent reconciliation and review.
  • Compile information and documentation for external auditors as needed.
  • Support the management team with financial insights and project analysis.
  • Assist in improving internal processes and best practices to streamline project-related information flow.
  • Take on additional responsibilities to support the broader Finance and Operations teams.
