PCU RN – Progressive Care Registered Nurse

About The Position

The Progressive Care Registered Nurse provides individualized, high-quality nursing care to patients of all ages. The nurse uses a team approach to delegate and coordinate care during admission, transfer, and discharge, and independently delivers care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, Mercy Medical Center policies, nursing standards, ethical principles, and professional judgment. This is a full-time night-shift role working 36 hours per week, with a schedule of 7 PM to 7 AM.

Requirements

Current Iowa registered nurse licensure or compact state licensure as defined by the State of Iowa.
Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three months of hire.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification within six weeks of hire.
One year of nursing experience is required for the Day Shift.

Responsibilities

Assess, plan, and implement nursing care while ensuring patient comfort.
Practice safe patient handling techniques.
Continuously evaluate assigned patients and provide ongoing treatment.
Anticipate, identify, and respond to the educational and emotional needs of patients and families.
Guide and direct healthcare personnel, including Patient Care Technicians, in caring for patients.
Maintain knowledge of equipment setup, maintenance, and use, including IV pumps, monitoring equipment, and drainage devices.
Use available safeguards, such as IV pump drug libraries and monitor alarms, to maximize patient safety.
Initiate emergency support measures, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation and protecting patients from injury.
Delegate and coordinate patient care at admission, transfer, and discharge.
