About The Position

International House (I-House) is a self-supporting, not-for-profit, residential, and community-oriented facility located at the foothills of the University of California Berkeley Campus. Founded in 1930, it has housed over 95,000 residents, including notable figures in various fields. Each year, I-House provides approximately 1,100 students and scholars from over 75 nationalities with an inclusive and safe living and learning environment. Beyond room and board, I-House aims to enhance the residential experience by fostering lifelong personal and professional connections and offering skills that enrich career opportunities. The organization's rich array of programs serves residents, the campus, and the local community. The Resident Life and Intercultural Development Office (RIO) is responsible for planning and executing a year-round residential program focused on developing cultural intelligence (CQ), intercultural learning, and leadership within the International House community. The Programs Coordinator is crucial in realizing this vision through hands-on program planning, execution, and resident support. This role involves supporting the design and delivery of large-scale signature events, ongoing social and educational programming, and resident-initiated initiatives. Additionally, the Programs Coordinator will train, supervise, and advise student workers and resident leaders to contribute to a vibrant and inclusive residential experience. This position requires regular availability during evenings and weekends to support programs and events.

Requirements

  • Experience in higher education/student affairs/leadership and development or related fields.
  • Experience supporting or coordinating events or programs.
  • Demonstrate ability to collaborate across departments and with diverse staff stakeholders.
  • Strong program and project management skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar productivity tools.
  • Ability to think creatively, problem-solve, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a core contributor to the planning and delivery of I-House programming—from concept through execution—including signature events (e.g., Weekly Coffee Hours, Festival of Cultures, Sunday Suppers), social and community-building activities (movie nights, hikes, sports, talks), and resident initiated events.
  • Manage program logistics, timelines, and operational details within established budgets and timelines.
  • Support with monitoring, ordering, and maintaining program supplies and storage organized.
  • Coordinate event setup and breakdown in collaboration with other internal I-House departments.
  • Support event marketing and promotion in coordination with marketing communications team.
  • Support with management of event registration processes and vendor coordination.
  • Collaborate with internal I-House departments to ensure smooth program delivery.
  • Oversee resident-initiated events from proposal review through execution.
  • Advise residents on event planning best practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist in cultivating strategic partnerships with internal and external campus stakeholders.
  • Support the supervision and day-to-day work of student staff.
  • Assist with onboarding, training, and ongoing skill development of student staff.
  • Support with coordinating work schedules, assignments, and project timelines.
  • Provide guidance and support to resident leaders as they plan and execute programs.
  • Assist with assessment and evaluation of resident programming and engagement.
  • Support data collection, analysis, and reflection to inform future programming.
  • Contribute insights related to resident needs, interests, and intercultural engagement.
